Japan - would you go at the moment?

DH and I have been discussing japan. Our concern is radiation. Not so much for us but for our children.
If we went we would probably be going to Kyoto, Tokyo and Hakuba or Niseko.
Are these places far enough away from ***ushima to be ok?

    Thanks auto-censor - f u k u s h i m a

    Haha at the auto sensor.

Aren't they having flooding at the moment as well due to storms at this time of year as well? I wouldn't see why not providing you were away from those areas it should be fine.

My mil is Japanese and went to Tokyo back in June. They had no worries there back then but checked govt updates for water contamination etc. At this stage the leaks are supposedly contained but you could buy bottled water etc to be safe. FWIW her brothers IL's live IN ***ushima and like most if the people in the city, didn't leave.

Mods- hope this link is OK. This is a blog that updates Tokyo radiation levels. This is the link to Sept this year:Tokyo radiation levels – daily updates – September | chottomatte.net

Radiation in Tokyo is sitting at around double normal background radiation at the moment. But to put that in perspective- average level is 0.2 micro sieverts per hour in a city so Tokyo is still showing a lower level than most cities on the planet.

I guess all I can suggest is to do some reading on radiation levels and see what you feel comfortable with. I would not worry about the levels being sent out of Tokyo at the moment. You'd have more exposure to radiation if you visited New York.
