I've got to get DD's uniforms soon for next year but have no clue how much of everything to get.
Summer dresses, winter dress, shorts, pants, t-shirt, jumper...... help!
For Summer - DD1 has 2 summer dresses, and 2 sport uniforms (a skort and shorts plus s/s tops). She wears the dresses 3 days a week and the sport uniform 2 days when they have PE and PMP (no idea what it stands for).
For Winter - She also has 2 winter tunics, 2 winter sport uniform (2 pairs of track pants, long sleeve top) plus 3 skivvys and 3 long sleeve t-shirts, 4 pairs of tights.
Daunting isn't it.
My littlest DD is starting as well
I have 2 older DD's and have found I need:
At least 3 summer dresses, so that you can wash them and get them dried in time.
2 Winter pinafores, as they wear skivvies or blouses underneath, so I don't have to wash the Pinny every day, make the dress last 2 days and the tops get washed everyday.
The tops I put underneath are just the cheap skivvies from best and less, target or big W, don't buy the proper school ones, they are so expensive. I have at least 3 tops, to put underneath.
I have 1 pair of tracksuit bottoms for sport, 1 pair of sports shorts, and a couple of sports polo shirts (again from the cheaper shops).
2 cardigans (they are bound to drop something dodgy down one).
1 winter coat.
A couple of hats (these will get lost in the kindy years), it's really annoying.
Loads of white socks (the washing machine eats them )
A few pairs of stockings in the winter.
Lots of school bobbles and slides, these go missing as well.
1 pair of sports joggers/shoes.
Good pair of school shoes, I've found it's not worth getting the cheap ones as they don't last, so I get Clarks (they get me through the year).
we've only ordered DD's summer and sports uniform
2x summer dresses
cardigan
cant remember what we got for sports
for winter we'll get one new and one second hand tunic plus skivvy's and bomber jacket etc..
THB though it depends on what sort of uniform your school uses, whether they are the check dresses from target etc.
DD's are $45 each and the tunic around $66 each
My kids have 3 shirts each, 3 pairs of shorts/skorts each, then a pair of sports shorts each for summer. They don't have dresses for the girls so they all wear the same shirts. For winter they have 2 pairs of tracky pants, DS has 2 pair of trousers and the girls have 2 winter skirts each. They have 3 jumpers each and 1 sports jacket each. I have found that this is a good quantity to have through winter incase you have a run of wet weather and can't get anything washed and dried. They will wear a jumper for a week though before it needs to be washed unless they get something on it.
This is a tough, as it depends on what they like to wear.
DD1 has 3 summer dresses, that she chooses to wear all year, she just changes the type of tights she wears. There is no proper winter uniform, other than trackies and a polo shirt, both of which she has refused to wear. She also refuses to wear skorts, even though I bought 3 them, plus tops. Also have the polar fleece jacket and vest, along with a couple of basic windcheaters.
I am spending a fortune on tights Just wish that girl would wear socks.
2 dresses
2 jumpers
2 shorts/skorts
2 polos
2 pants
I found that to be HEAPS, I was every day anyway so they would always have 1 uniform in the wash and 1 clean. I added more to that every year, we have so much uniform now it's not funny.

Astrid, my girls would go through a pair of tights a week, but I started buying them leggings to wear during winter and they are so much better! two pairs of leggings see them through the entire winter. Do you think she'd wear those?
Trillian - I will check out leggings, she may wear those. The winter cotton tights are not so bad, as they are tougher, just the opaque ones she trashes and they can't be repaired. Should have seen me snap up all the discount tights at Best and less one day, $1 a pair
I have been HANGING to buy DS's uniforms, are you getting a size up to accommodate the possible growth in the next few months? I was considering waiting until later on but I don't want to miss out.
So EXCITED to hear you ladies are buying up now lol
I haven't bought anything yet, waiting until orientation in a couple of weeks as there will be a chance to try uniforms on for size... And I can't get to the school when the uniform shop is open. Am I likely to not get it in time now?!
I haven't a clue what to get DD. She is dress mad but I dint think I've ever seen anyone at her school in a dress! Can you still buy school bloomers? (we called them scungies when I was in primary).
Just remember to name everything well. I had the iron on ones and put one at the back and one on the side. It was amazing how the back one was removed but the side one stayed as it wasn't seen.
If you wash every day you don't need alot of clothing and I found it cheaper to get a start up set then buy through the year. Also look in op shops as you will be amazed at what you find especially after the year has started. With the dresses I used to wash at night, give the dress a good shake, hang on a hanger and it was usually dry the next morning.
If possible buy trackpants with reenforced knees as they last longer.
If you have girls and they want to wear dresses buy short leggings or shorts for under them. This is an idea I was given for the play ground/equipment.
2 x Polo Shirts
1 x Sports Shorts
1 x Dress shirt
1 x Dress shorts
1 x Hat
1 x school bag
1 x excusrion bag
All of the items are compulsory. DS is going to a brand new public school that runs like a private school. We're very lucky to have the principal that is there and he is strict with uniform and behaviour policies which I feel is important from the start.
MG, our orientation is tomorrow night, but DS is at his dad's so even if the opportunity to try on is there, I won't have him anyway. I just ordered him size 6's (uniform sizing is notoriously huge) and hoping for the best. The orders don't come back till January so they can try them on then and swap sizes if need be which is handy. I'm excited to get the book list and hear of all the other information regarding routines, curriculum and homework etc!
I'll get another dress shirt and a tracksuit further on in the year, but that's a good base line I think. Plus I don't mind washing every day/second day, we already have to with DSD's uniforms.
