we've had this horrible vomiting/gastro thing going through the schools, work, etc here usually I am tough as old guts and don't catch these bugs from the kids. Not this time....
Started vomiting and liquid diarrhea about midnight - vomited every hour a few times, including throwing up water, probably 8 vomits all up and as many poos. All stopped early this morning - but the diarrhea was almost black - like if you take iron supplements. I normally do, but due to feeling queasy at bedtime last night I didn't. Usually if I miss just one, my poo is a normal colour the next morning. This diarrhea has been this colour all night and still now that it's semi solid (hey I warned ya).
Don't know what the vomit looked like cause I didn't turn the light on at all to see.
Should I be concerned? I still feel like poo - nauseous, crampy sore tummy. I've been drinking hydrolite and sucking on icy poles today and kept down 2 slices of toast at 12.30....
as long as you don't have bright red blood in your poo than it sounds like bad gastro to me, if you can't stop vomiting or get unbearable abdominal cramps and a high fever go to the ER, you can get meds to help with that and some investigations, keep hydrated, as long as you are still weeing than you will prob just have to ride it out hydration and things like gall stones, appendicitis etc are the main concerns but you said others have had it lately too. You poor thing must be awful.
How awful! Gastro is the worst If you're worried then give health first a call or a doctor to put your mind at ease. Did you happen to see anyone else's poo? Was it a similar colour, lol I know gross but hey it's a poo & vomit kinda thread. But if the kids were the same then probably not too much to worry about. Could be the dregs of the day before's iron maybe. I hope you feel better ASAP!
Black poo can be a sign of a few things. Simple stuff like what you ate, to more serious stuff called malaena (old blood) caused by a small bleed. Since it's been continuous I might be tending towards the ring your GP advice.
Hope you're feeling better soon hun.
