    What days should I work?

Ok so as of 1 jan I am going to be working 3 days per week and 1 Saturday per month. I'm curious as to what days you would choose?

I have to have a least a Monday or friday In there as they are days that we have other ppl on rdo's. And I can't have 3 days in a row.

My boss suggested mon, wed and Friday but I'd rather have a at least 2 days together. I'm thinking tues, wed and Friday, what do u think? Hubby flies home from work on either a tues or wed and normally comes off night shift so I think I'd rather have my days off as a full day with him rarer than a half day picking him up from the airport etc.

Monday's are good as there are more public holidays on Monday, so more paid days off!

I would do Mon, Wed Thursday, for the public holiday reason, as well as that way you can get some longer weekends with the Friday, Sat Sun in there and having at least 2 of the days in a row means that if you are having a bad week at least it won't drag on!! A bit different but I worked a Monday and Thursday the other week (normally Wed,Thur) and although I liked having worked one day and then having a few off it meant the week really dragged on for me!

I would do Mon, Tues, Thur - that way you get public hols and a long weekend most of the time.

Mondays for the extra public holidays, then wed/thur so that you always have a long weekend

I used to do Mon, Tues, Fri at work. It was great. Like two weekends. Fridays are great to work, especially after a break, because everyone is feeling "Friday" and winding down whereas you're feeling ready to go, so you look super-productive but still get the long lunch and can knock off early.

Because part-timers often get public holidays taken out of their slightly increased annual leave (or at least they do in places I have worked), I'd say Tues, Weds, Fri would be your best option. You get the long weekend (and a weekend if you work the Sat that week), only work two days in a row max AND don't have to tiptoe around the house when your DH is recovering from nights.

Other consideration for me: what day is payday? Elect not to work that day. Cos then you get money coming into the bank when you're sat at home doing no work. I love that feeling.

What kind of work do you do? I have always found it nearly impossible to work part time, but have decided that's more about the type of work I do.

I would go for mon tues Thursday, as people won't miss you on Wednesday, you will get more Monday's off cos of public holidays, and having Fridays off means you always get a long weekend! Saying that though, I love that delicious feeling of being able to relax on a Sunday night knowing most of the world has to get up and go to work on Monday and you don't! So I would consider tues, wed & Friday as choice number 2!

    Hi lovlies,

Thanks for your wonderful replies. I wrote that post on my phone at lunch today so I probably didnt explain myself very well.

I am a travel agent and our office is within a shopping centre. On Thursday nights we have 3 different shifts as the centre trades until 9pm, if I was to have Thursday as one of my days it would mean I would have to be rotated in this roster. Also the shopping centre that I work in is one of the only centres that trades on a public holiday Meaning that if Monday is one of my days then I would have to work regardless of if it was a public holiday or not. We also have weekly business meetings on a Wednesday. For these reason I think Tues, Wed and Fri and then 1 sat a month is the best option.

I agree within Apple tree about sitting there on a sunday night knowing that you dont have to work on the monday We get paid bi-monthly, so twice a month but not fortnightly. I get my commission on the 8th and reatiner on the 18th of each month.

So if you are open on public holidays, do you get additional pay - i.e. time and a half/double time? If yes, then that would be another good reason to work on a Monday...

Hey kimbels - nope no extra pay I'm on a salary. If a public holiday falls on one of my normal work days then I'm expected to work it.

I think based on that then the days you said are perfect. I'd do Tues,Wed and Friday too. Means even when you work the Saturday you still have Sunday and Monday off too.

Yep I agree - based on what you've said I'd work those three days too.

I do Mon Wed Fri (so tue/thur off). I am not required to work public holidays as they wud have to pay me extra so I always have the Monday off. Imagine doing Tue/wed/thur, then u have fri and monday off, even a longer weekend woot.

If I was on in your situation, probably working one of the busiest days would be good too so that you can maximise your sales?

I use to work Monday, Thursday Friday... Having 2 days off between each lot of work was so much better for my head, it felt like 2 weekends!

If I had to work Saturdays occasionally, I would want to work the Friday as I would be in the zone for Saturday and wouldn't be as hard to get up and go Saturday... But that's me
    Good luck with your decision!
