How long to get over a GA?

How long to feel normal-ish again? Does it take a long time for the drugs to leave your system?

I didn't feel right for about 24 hours after I had a GA with my last lap, just a bit woozy when I stood up. Maybe it's the painkillers that are making you feel odd?

24-48 hours depending on lots of different factors such as the drug, route, dose, your metabolism, other meds given.

Sorry for bluntness, I'm in bed sick.

The clexane can make you feel woozy. When DH needed it for his blood clot he felt really light headed for the first few days.

I'd drink to boost your bp and rest. Are taking meds at moment for pain? Don't forget pain itself can make you feel diff.

Thanks hon. I hope I feel better soon too, I don't have time to be sick!

Took me a few days hun.... And I was under less than an hour. Don't know what they gave me... Felt sleepy and out of it for about 24hrs but then a day or so later I got a splitting headache, felt nauseous and had the runs (sorry TMI...) Nausea and headache passed the next day but the diarrhea stuck around for another two days

Hope you are feeling better soon xxx

the runs can take a lot out of you too

i felt pretty ordinary for about 10 days after most recent op - I was only under short term, but seemed to react to the meds (the runs mostly) and it made me crook for over a week. don't assume it's the GA, there is probably a combination of other factors making you feel pretty cruddy. hopefully it clears soon!

    Don't ya love TEDs?

Seriously hon, I'd rest when you can and just ride it out. Don't give yourself a time frame because everyone recovers differently. Your weight, height, diet, metabolism, emotional wellbeing, general fitness, type of surgery, type of medications received during the op and after, how much sleep you get, other medical conditions and so forth all impact on how quickly you recover and HOW you recover. There are no hard and fast rules but I can assure you that what you were given intraoperatively will have been metabolised by now. Unfortunately some medications have a "hang over" effect and can leave you feeling lousy for a few days - but the drug itself is out of your system.

Things that will help speed up your recovery are eating well, drinking plenty of fluids, and getting plenty of rest (difficult with children!).

How long do you need the clexane for? DH's stomach ended up looking like a bruised pin cushion but he was on it twice daily for a month. I hope it isn't too bad for you
