    this is the norm....right?

    Hiya all

DD has been toilet trained (hate the word trained but havent got another) throught the day since 18mths. Over the last 4 mths she has been going in spells of dry nappies at night, her longest recently of 8 nights. So I thought we would try knickers on her at night. Fine for 2 nights dry as a bone (so 11 nights dry) then a wet bed on the 3rd night- righto an accident, thats all good. Knickers on again last night and a wet bed again. This is all part of the process, right? I dont know whether to put a nappy on tonight or is this going to make her think she isnt capable of it iykwim?? I dont want her to think that we have no faith in her! But if she really hasnt got the concept and its been a series of flukes than she perhaps needs one.....

    Thoughts, opinions etc?

    TIA

ETA She is just over 2.

I'd suggest maybe giving it another night or 2 in knickers, maybe discussing with her it's ok to have accidents but encouraging going to the toilet before bed, limit fluids before bed (all stuff your prob doing).
I actually put a night light and the potty in DD's room for 'quick access' at the start which showed her she didn't have to make a huge effort to get up and run for the toilet in the dark.
DD still has random nights where she has an accident but is mostly dry, i think it's all just a wait and see game.
If she's getting distressed bu being wet then maybe use pull-ups or a nappy for a couple of days then try again?

Definately the norm, sounds like your DD has just been in a really deep sleep and didn't wake up, therefore wetting the bed.
My DD is 4 yo & only just became night 'trained' but still has the odd accident. We make sure she goes to the toilet right before bed time & if she seems unsettled, get her up & take her again.

It took DD1 ages to learn the difference between night nappies and undies. So for ages we let her wear nothing under her pjs to bed. She was fine with that, and she had no accidents doing that. But the second we put undies on her for bed, she would have an accident.

We let her wear nothing to bed for ages and only a couple of months ago had the talk with her about wearing undies to bed if she wanted to wear nighties. (Of course been in winter she was in flannel pants and top every night) She was all good with that and started to wear undies, now she wont go to bed without them on!!

But DD1 was the same with day toileting too. If she had undies on in the beginning she would have heaps of accidents. So we literally gave up on undies in the beginning and slowly introdueced them over time. So she wore nothing but long pants and shorts in the beginnning, and when she wanted t wear a skirt we would just have a chat about why undies are different to nappies.

Wow, that made me think. We had three dry nights with just undies, not pj bottoms, then we've had 4 wees in bed with pj bottoms on (as well as undies). I hadn't even considered that to be a factor. I'll try just undies tonight and see if my dry boy is back

Just thought I'd feed back, put him in bed with no pj bottoms last night and hey presto! Dry bed. Wow. It'll be undies to bed for a while now, until he's ready to try pj bottoms again, thank goodness it's not mid-winter!
