for my first daughter i ened up spending nearly $5'000
this time the bill is up to $2'500
buying all brand new
whats your budject plans and how much have you spent and what you would concider a normal budjet to add up to once everything is brought from cot to nappies
I rarely add things up. i dont buy brand new tho. i keep a list of things i need/want see what prices things normally go for and just keep my eye open and if things are on special i get them, we also go to lots of markets and garage sales. so i really only look and compare prices on the individual items.
At an estimate (really rough guess) id say so far we have spent $500. (not including paint and house reno type things to fit a nursery) but we have a cot, a change table, a bassinett, a playmat, start of Mcn stash, 3 slings, some sheets. i think thats all ive bought. i also got given 5 or 6 huggies boxes full of clothes and a baby bath.
My parents have also offered to buy us one 'big' item which i think ill get them to buy the car seat cause that is something i will be getting brand new.
this time ive gone ebay for alot of big items like cot/drawers/change table
i got a brand new cot 7 chest of drawers and change table for $650 (that beats the hell out of any baby shop)
bassinette i got for $40 as sombody brought it never used it
i carnt paint the nurcery as i dont own my own home,
but with buying everything i possibly need came up to the 2'500
i also found family buy 90% of the cloths and all i had to do was buy some jumpsuits
but you have seem to done real good buying second hand.
I started when we were ttc (2years before i got preg). so was heaps of time to wait til something came up.
Im also not wanting/needing much. I didnt even plan on getting a change table but a cheap one popped up and DH wanted it so we got it.
i have bought a double pram off e-bay for $5, a change table/hutch in excellent condition for $20.
first time around, my hammock, cot, pram, change table, feeding chair were all second hand. many were given to me by friends. i bought my car seat brand new. i have a group of friends and bags of baby clothes that have been through at least 4 families now and are still available for the next bub to be born.
i use cloth nappies and the majority were bought second hand, and the others were bought during sales. i have also lent these to a friend and just got my newborn stash back for this baby.
i bought 2 baby carriers (a close carrier and an ergo) brand new, and will use them again with bub #2.
i bought DD1's king single bed off e-bay for $12, and then bought a good quality new mattress (because we may be sleeping in it to help her settle)
i like to re-use, to be creative, to make clothes or funky them up (i tie dye most of my baby singlets). i will buy expensive things if there is a safety aspect or a functional aspect that i feel strongly about, but otherwise i am happy to shop around and buy second hand or make things.
i would rather have less toys, but have good quality ones.
I hardly bought anything with DD - we had family and friends that just used us as a dumping ground for their old baby things
We bought a new mattress for the cot and a car seat and that was it! Apart from a few bits and pieces like toys and outfits.
Unfortunately because it's been so long I have done the same and passed it all along and now have nothing lol
I'm really looking forward to buying my own things for this bub - especially a pram! I wasn't happy with my last pram but kept thinking it would be a waste to buy a brand new one when she was already 6 months or whatever.
I'm sure once the announcement happens we will be offered things from people too - but if not it just means more shopping for me
I spent a lot $5000 but it has been on a massive amount of second hand items mainly, new cloth nappies, some clothes up to size 4 (eBay bulk lots).
It has been useful as bubs needs equipment in four places as I'm separated.
I also had to buy things to modify my small unit to suit us in terms of storage boxes, a clear shower curtain so I can see him when I am in the shower.
So that includes everything I bought from items for me during the pregnancy to the first six months.
For example we loaned one bassinette from my SIL for my Mum's which was great as we ended up staying there five weeks, then used it when we went over. Then I had a very large bassinette here, which we used for six months, as the second hand cot, it's drop side slats broke as they had been re-glued before. Then my parents accidentally ended up with two cots at their place, Mum bought one on eBay and saw a better and cheaper one at a garage sale! lol, so she then resold the eBay one. Now I have ended up buying a new cot.
With rockers and strollers we had two rockers and three strollers (all second hand, three Maclaren items).
