DS laughed. I started to calculate the energy spent on that display and just grew more and more incredulous. Certainly makes you think "all lit up like a Christmas tree", doesn't it? How could you get to sleep at the front of that house?

Heavy drapes and ear plugs. Or turn them off before bed. I'm guessing the music factor would mean they need to shut down earlier than if it was just lights.... I can see the lights outside and from our tree from my posi in bed at the moment. Neither will stop me sleeping...

I can't see how a light display is any different to loud parties, etc that may be disturbing - as long as they are off by a legal time which I imagine would be the case here.

I have lights on tonight - I also have solar panels and currently use very little power at all and my lights are also solar lights.

Sigh - I posted for enjoyment, but anyway.....

To the solar lights? I only bought them today and wasn't sure how they would be. I am happy and suprised. They are really pretty and I might even get some more. So much easier than running cords everywhere! And I think $20 for a set of 200 LEDs is pretty good.

Very pretty. There are a couple of huge houses across the road from each other in Perth that do something very similar, with all donations going to the children's hospital here. They stop the lights at around 8.30 pm each night and you have to park down the end of the street where there is a park so you're away from other residents etc. One of the houses has so much stuff that the owners can't use their own garage the whole time the display is up. Great for charity - they raise close to $100,000 each year but I'm really glad I don't live in the neighbourhood!
