Hey ladies! Does anyone have any info or tips on where to go for info on the safety of VBAC after a post-section infection? A friend is expecting, and had a c-section with her first (high bp) and her doctor seemed like a bit of a knob. About a month after her surgery, she ended up with an infection in her incision. (external, not internal, to the best of my knowledge.) It took about 5 months to heal. Her doctor said that she should not try a VBAC because of the infection, and I have encouraged her to get a second opinion.
Do you know of any good resources on this issue? I've read lots about VBAC, but haven't seen too much about this specific kind of situation.
hi, I only just seen this thread. I have not yet had a vbac, but i had a pretty bad infection when DD was 4mths old, i had 4 repeats of abs, dose and duration increasing each time. In the end it only cleared up when i found another gp who actually took the time to look at it and wasnt just out of medical school, he found a heamatoma (sp?) and busted it, i had to put betadine on it daily as well as the ab's and it did clear up. next step was IV ab's so im really glad i tried a different gp. Anyway fast forward to this pregnancy and my ob sees no reason for me to try for a vbac, the infection is noted on all my forms and hospy stuff by her, but she says it shouldnt have any effect on a vbac. HTH
Hi Cricket, I know this thread is old but was just wondering how your friend went. Did she find any information regarding a VBAC after infection? I am not yet pregnant but am hoping to be at some point this year and am wanting a VBAC, I too had an infection (Although in some notes it says I didn't have an infection it was just seroma fluid :/ )
Rosey, if it helps at all, I had an internal infection of my uterus after my second c-section and 15 months later went on to have a VBA2C if that helps at all. My infection was in the lining of my uterus and not my scar.
Yeah the scar is part of my uterus, but the infection was in my lining of my uterus, not because of the scar in it - ITMS? I had the infection for a few weeks, it hit me about 2 weeks after her birth and laid me up for about a month. 6 months later I was pregnant again Thanks for the congrats, my first VBA2C was in 2009 so it feels like ages ago!
BTW, I'm on the north side of Brisbane now if you ever wanted to get together for some VBAC support in real life
