    False positive on pregnancy test?

    Hi everyone ...

We have been TTC for 3+ years now ... recently signed up IVF and going to start treatment next year. I have been seeing a Chinese medicine doctor for a few months because I thought I'd like to improve my health to prepare for the IVF treatment, and he told me that he actually felt that I am very healthy now and should fall pregnant naturally so told us to give it a good try.

And yesterday I got a very faint line on the pregnancy test. I couldn't believe my eyes but at the same time was very worried that it's a false positive. So I was wondering whether any of you girls could give me some advice or experience on the pregnancy test? It's a generic brand. I also didn't chart this cycle as we thought we just didn't want to worry about it but I think I should have got my period yesterday.

I didn't use FMU yesterday and it gave me a faint line, today I also didn't manage to use FMU but it was BFN. I just tried it again after holding out peeing for 4 hours which on the net says should create the effect of FMU and still BFN. I am getting worried that yesterday's faint line is a false positive ... hubby and I were both getting quite happy but now it is very worrying ...

I did get a blood test done yesterday but need to wait till Tuesday for results.

Hoping that someone can share some experience and idea ... thank you very much!

Secretmission, what was the brand of the positive test? Some are renowned for evaporation lines (which can be interpreted as a positive when it's not). Blue dye tests are especially notorious.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. It doesn't look like it has a brand. I bought it online and it just says hcg strip one step urine pregnancy test. So will the lines literally be blue? Because this one the lines are purple. So would this be the evaporation lines? Oh my ...

    Hi again
Thanks for the pointer on evap line! I just did a search on the net and found someone else used the same "brand" (bought from oracle fertility) as mine and asked exactly the same question on belly belly. And the lady was told to try FR instead. So I guess i might do that too. Thank you once again!

    Glad that there is bellybelly!

I definitely recommend First Response tests. I've had them come up positive up to 4-5 days before my period was due. I always had a stash of cheap internet stick test and would do them from really early, and if there was any hint of a possible line I would do a First Response test and it would show up VERY definitely as a line.

    Good luck!

With the FR ones that aren't the early detect ones it's best to hold on for as long as you can- i think 3hrs is the other recommended time frame. If you got early response ones you can go pee now. Best of luck.

When I did the first response ones I've had them come up positive without FMU, but the more concentrated the urine the more HCG will be present if you are pregnant, so the darker the line will be

Hubby didn't get me the early response ones (bad move, mental note: never get the hubby to get this sort of things), and I just found one digital one in my stock but it's so expensive so I don't want to waste it ... looks like I'd better hold for a few good hours before trying then as I am not entirely sure where in the cycle I actually am ...

haha i never use digi's unless i know for sure im pregnant!
FWIW last pregnancy i used the not early first response (the dip in one) and i got a bfp at 10 dpo with FMU, so should still be ok
i used the oracle ones this pregnancy and couldnt get a bfp on them till 17dpo! 7 days after i got one on FR

I agree with First Response, they rock!! Digitals I'm not a huge fan of.
I bought a heap of the cheap ones as well and I didn't get a positive until 1 week after I got my +ve from my FRERs.

I am tempted to exchange the FR with an FRER ... as I really cannot cope with another BFN as the cheapo test really got our hopes up yesterday ...
I have been having a really bad headache since I wake up so I couldn't help but to drink heaps and therefore cannot hold for more than 2 hours ... :P
Maybe I should just wait till tomorrow morning for the FMU ... but my FMU is normally at 4 or 5am so that's why it's really hard to get the test routine done before my body flying spontaneously straight back to bed ...

Hi hun! GL for your next test! I really hope it's a nice BFP for you. I'd hold out for the first morning pee if you can...

If you go back to bed without drinking the second wee you do when you get up will be even better to use.
