What's the going rate for babysitting a 2 year old?
We've never had a paid babysitter before and I'm just wondering what the going rate is?
The sitter is 16 years old and will have her younger sisters here as well. It's a dinner thing tonight that we're going to and we'll probably be gone 3-4 hours. My son will be all ready for bed before we leave so there's no nappy changing, bathing or dinner feeding involved but he's unlikely to actually go to sleep for her so she'll be earning her money, not just relaxing on the couch lol.
What's the hourly rate? (We are in a country area and know her parents so we don't want to over pay her but we don't want to underpay either).
We had a teenager look after our kids (3 of them), she was 16 and we paid her $10 an hour. She was extremely happy with this.
By the time she needed to start, DD who is 2 was already in bed and the boys who are 8 and 5 were already ready for bed and very good for her and went to bed for her no problems. They did try and get a Milo out of her before bed..points to the boys for trying She didn't give in
A friends daughter who is 14 was going to charge $8 an hour.
A professional would charge $20 or more an hour.
Thanks Heather. DP was trying to get her dad to come up with a number but between them they had no idea! lol. That's really helpful. I was thinking $20 an hour might be too much but I know DS will be hard work to get into bed/stay there etc because he is for me every night!!
My neighbour watches my kids but she is 19 with lots of experience. For both kids I give her $20 an hour. Though it's usually in the daytime when they are full on.
