My DH (34) and I (28) have been trying for our second for 5 years with no luck. Weve made the decision to go with IVF, but how do you pick which centre?
There are 3 fertility specialists I really like. One works for Wesmead, one for IVFA and the other for Genea. They all have the specialties I'm looking for, the locations are all pretty much the same distance, cost differences are minimal in the grand scheme of things. So I'm stuck. People have recommendations for all 3 centres. Equally I've heard bad experiences about all 3 centres also.
So I guess my question is, what influenced your decision on which FS/centre to go with?
Mine was a really easy decision because my Ob for my girls is also head of a fertility centre, so when we needed help this time it was natural to go to him.
If distance isn't a factor, go for whichever one you get a good feel for - staff as much as dr. You deal with the nurses a lot, so good to be happy with them.
My GP recommended Genea because of their high success rates. For me it was important that I found a FS that I felt comfortable with. Luckily I have, my specialist is lovely, easy to talk, genuine, and clearly explains options. He takes the time in each consult which is great. I never felt rushed or like a number. The nurses at Genea have been great too. Friendly and supportive.
All that said, I must admit I am still at the beginning of my IVF journey (3 months in - with first ICSI cycle in the new year). So perhaps it is too premature for me to comment.
Anyways, good luck. Hope you find a FS you are happy with.
I had an appointment with two different fertility specialists at two different clinics. Both doctors were really great. We only went and saw the second doctor because the first dctor told us that due to us going through IVF for genetic/PGD reasons, it might be a good idea for us to start the process with two clinics to see what sort of time frame both would give us in terms of how quickly we could see genetic specialist, how long approval might take, how long the waiting period for PGD would be, etc... Turns out the second clinic could do it much much much quicker and as we liked both doctors we went with the second clinic. Once the ball got rolling things flew (even though we needed two cycles to get our precious little girl).
Mine was with monash (they have one of the highest success rates) plus my friend is a GP and told me that he came very highly recommended. Good luck with AC sweetie!
Recommendation, we are from a small country town and IVF was still very 'taboo' here so when someone opened up suggested a clinic, we ran with it. Perhaps you could speak to them?? The person who answers and how they treat you over the phone when you ring might help you decide where you feel most comfortable
Ours had a great reputation but we went with her after recommendations from three other friends.
Do you like the sound of any of the three in particular? I agree with Lily Dust, you may get a 'vibe' when you call - or even drop in and talk to the staff first...?
Thanks everyone for your replies. After much soul searching and deliberation, we decided on a FS from Genea. As some of you have said I get a good vibe from her and she has made feel quite settled about the whole process after only talking with her on the phone. Our first appointment is in the new year. We can't wait to start this terrifying journey!
