Exclamation Living in a tourist town......

Further to my beach thread!!! If you live in a tourist town, one with a huge influx of tourists in Summer and other times, how do you find it??

Is it liveable?? Bearable??? Do you find you go away somewhere else anyway?? Do you just accept it as part of where you live?? Do you love it and the atmosphere???

Any advice appreciated - getting closer to deciding!!! I am 100% sure, now to convince DH, get him sorted with work and realisation that a pay cut will be outwayed by NO mortgage (just our rental but the house we will live in we will own outright) that he won't be travelling 40mins -1hr each way to work so the petrol savings alone plus less child care fees as it is much cheaper there. My pay will stay the same thanks to the Dept of Ed!!

    TIA

It would depend on what kind of tourists the place attracts. I live in a tourist town that attracts families and couples. During peak times (Summer, Easter and Cup Weekend and snow season) it gets very busy. I mainly just stay away from the shops during the busy times.

Mmmm its a popular beach destination and I would imagine mainly families and some young people? Not as bad as Rye/Rosebud though I wouldn't think - will find out in a few weeks when we spend 7 days camping there!

We currently live in a tourist area & then there was also when we were up on the border. It can be a pain but we have been lucky enough to live in houses far enough away from the "chaos". Traffic can be a bit of a pain but it's mainly the supermarkets & the rudeness. We just stay away from the supi when we know it'll be busy & also the swimming pool. Go for it Hun, I know how much you want this & for how long!! I'm sure you'll be able to convince DH. Find some houses & get him excited! Eeeeep, SO excited hun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ooh, I know where you're thinking of Tan! DH's auntie has a beautiful beachfront home there, we had our wedding in her garden . She's putting it up for sale soon (Although you'd end up with a massive mortgage with that house lol).

It gets really really busy there over peak season, but I reckon it would be worth it! DH's cousins have all grown up there and they have never complained about the busy times .

    How exciting!!

    Thanks all!!

Trish yep you got it!! We are considering either there or DH's home town - for the sake of 20 mins I would rather be beachside!! I figure we will pack up the van and head elsewhere in peak times and enjoy it when it's quiet.. Just trying to work out the logistics and DH's work - he has worked SO hard to get where he is, in 2 years he has gone from a trades assistant to a Site Manager and Foreman and is on great pay. Just have to weigh it all up but I am keen to do stuff before Iz starts school too. Will see what happens!!

We live in a tourist town and it's not an issue for us. I will add we are locals, so for us this is normal

We'll have to do some more play dates before (if!) you move Tan! DH's Auntie is a teacher at primary school in a town local to where she lives. She's retiring at the end of this year. Made me think of you!

I live in a tourist town....a bit different to a beachside town, but one that relies on tourists none the less. We don't even really notice.

Tan my ILs are part time in Apollo Bay - they basically stay out of town as much as possible over Christmas/New Year, that's the busiest time.

    They love it. Wonderful lifestyle.

Nope sorry Ginger although some people can guess from a few things I have posted I think!

That is the aim Lulu - less stress, anxiety, more beach/relaxation/family time! Plus only 20 mins from the IL's which will be so good for the kids and the IL's! It might be up to a year yet before it all happens but SO excited!

Love love love living in my tourist town! Happy to share it every holiday season with the hoards... Love the vibe the tourists bring. Gorgeous summer days on the beach, twilight BBQs with friends, cafes overlooking the water. Moved here about 8 years ago and have not regretted it.
