There are many posts asking how to get a child to poo in the toilet when they are pretty good with wee but not many ideas so I thought I would post how I did it. DD2 is 2.5yrs I had been TT for 7 days and we had gone 3 days without a wee accident but not poo success. I had been training directly on to the toilet with a step up seat. We had trained DD1 using a potty but preferred the toilet this time around. DD2 seemed not to be able to tell when the poo was coming so I decided to introduce the potty. She is a pretty regular pooer, always pooing between 8-9am and often while squatting playing with her dolls house so that is where I put the potty and then I watched her like a hawk. The moment I thought she was going to poo I slid the potty under her and puller her undies down and said poo coming push. SUCCESS! She was super excited and got the reward we had promised (watching her sisters ballet concert DVD - rewards come in all shapes and sizes). Later in the day I thought she needed to go to the toilet so we went to the big toilet and out came this enormous poo, she had obviously been holding to. Again super excited and now she is disappointed when she only does a wee.
I must disclaim this all happened today so hopefully we can back it up tomorrow. But that is how we got poo in the toilet. When something isn't working sometimes you have to think about a different way of getting the same result.
Great idea - DS2 does the same thing (when he poos).
We also resisted the idea of getting a potty (we have a seat and step for the loo). We got a poo in the toilet on Sunday - it was mid-poo but he did it all the same.
I think I'm going to invest the $8 and buy a potty tonight and try your trick!
