Hooray!! He did a pee in the toilet!

Over the weekend we let DS2 run around with just terry training pants. It was a half-hearted attempt to begin toilet training as he keeps taking his nappies off - particularly in hot weather. We asked him at different times if he needed to go to the toilet for a poo or pee and sat him on the toilet. He's fascinated with the toilet BTW.

On Sunday we "caught" a poo (mid-poo) and quickly put him on the toilet. It all happened rather quickly but he was still impressed .... gazing at his "poo" in the toilet before we flushed!

Anyway, yesterday at childcare they put him onto the toilet at each nappy change - he didn't do anything but was happy to sit there.

This morning when he woke up I was going to put him in the shower with me but thought, what the heck, and put him on the toilet first. I asked him if he wanted to go and he instead said "book". I handed him his book and he sat there. After about 30 seconds he looked up at me and sure enough we heard the telltale tinkle-tinkle. He had a massive grin and said "hooray" and clapped his hands. He was very impressed with himself.

The funniest thing though was when his little fart echoed in the toilet bowl - I think this, if nothing else, will encourage him to use the toilet more often: it just cracked him up!

I had a call from the childcare centre this morning to say that he's done another pee on the toilet and is still quite impressed, although a little put out if nothing happens.

Anyway, I just wanted to say yay for my little man!

Great story! DS (20 months) is fascinated by the loo atm and constantly asks to sit on it, though nothing happens. He LOVES making his little straining noises too but always looks in the bowl rather forlornly and then at me as if to say 'why isn't there anything there? I tried!' Me, I'm trying to just go with it, but am a little bit over the constant nappy on, nappy off, put on seat, take off seat, wash and dry hands merry go round...
