    Swimming for weight loss

We have a heap of passes to the local pool and in the 6 weeks I have left before returning to work while the kids are at child care I figure I should use them.

Any tips on the best way to lose weight at the swimming pool? Laps, water walking?

Mix it up a little, do some laps (different strokes & kicking), some water walking, jumping up & down, lunges etc.

What ZF said - mix it up. Everyone is different, so different things work for different people, but doing a variety of things keeps it interesting for you, which means that you're more likely to stay with it. GL.

If you can, go at a time a water aerobics class is on, watch the instructor then do your own exercises in another area

Breaststroke is a great work out for the inner thighs, even better if you use a board to really concentrate on using just your legs.

I love swimming it really is a full body work out. Go for it!

I used to do a km of swimming - mostly freestye but some breaststroke - and then another km of just kickboarding. Would then finish off with walking a few laps from the shallow end of the lap pool until the water got to say mid torso. Not the best exercise for weight loss because you're not supporting all your own weight, but the best thing I've ever found for all over toning.

Its the one thing I regret about our move to this house - there is no decent 50m pool anywhere less than 30minutes drive away. I miss swimming so much - found that not only was it great for toning and fitness, but I loved the mental release I got of just swimming lap after lap in peace and quiet.
