Firstly I would like to say YAY! My baby girl was born via VBAC last tuesday, I am soooo proud of my achievement and my obs was absolutely amazing throught the whole labour. Feeling very blessed.
BUT the reason for my post is to ask all the mummies out there how many hours per day did your baby sleep in the very first weeks. My bub seems to want to sleep a LOT. Much more than my first. I have trouble waking her for feeds and when I do wake her I am lucky if she finishes her feed. She is asleep in no time. I strip her down to help her wake... I change her nappy... even a bath won't do it. WHAT CAN I DO? Did anyone else have this experience????
Me!! This exact thing happened to me. My little man slept so much in that first month and he was a sleepy feeder too. I just made sure he was putting on weight and then figured it was my awesome mummy milk making him grow quickly and therefore he was sleeping a lot. After a few weeks we were getting an hour or so awake time in the mornings and a couple of hours in the evenings. I also made sure dd was around when he was awake because he loved watching her from an early age. Just keep doing what you are doing, make sure she has enough wet nappies and keep offering feeds. Lastly, congratulations!!!
Congratulations on the birth of your baby!
Babies are all a bit different, and many are sleepy to start with. It can be a problem if they don't feed enough. How many feeds is she having? How often is she pooing? Someimtes they just wake up on their own, sometimes they need a bit more milk to get them started.
When you say she hasn't finished, is it because your breasts are stil feeling full?
If she's gaining weight, and having plenty of wet nappies over the day, I wouldn't be worried just yet. being born can be pretty exhausting work for babies, so I'd expect her to be pretty sleepy for the first couple of weeks.
ABA are a good group to speak to, they might be able to put your mind at rest about what's "normal" and what's not, their helpline is 1800 mum-2-mum
