    baking supplies sites

    need help!

i have an idea in my head for DD's birthday cake - and it involves a heart shaped cake. i've looked at the local shops - no love there - the only cake tins for hearts are very small. Sopdet has one but i think it's too big. so i've been looking online. all the ones on ebay are either too small, or located in the UK, so $37+ delivery! i've looked at the raspberry butterfly and baking pleasures websites - can anyone suggest any others that might have a heart cake tin (that won't cost five times the prices of the actual tin to deliver?)

we're having similar issues finding a 5 inch round tin (with 3 inch sides) - they're all 2inches deep - which doesn't work with our other cake tins!

i'm happy to scope out all sites - don't post links though - just google terms so i can find them! dont' want anyone infracted!

I got a set with an average size heart in a set from Avon years ago. Who knows, they might still sell them.

Try Wests in Burwood BG, they have a great selection and you can either buy or hire, they have a website if you google.

Just had a look - they have an "Abstract heart" on their site in different sizes and probably have normal ones too!

you could try merryday - they hire out cake tins & they definitely have heart-shaped ones (i've double checked on their site). they probably wouldn't deliver/post them but i've found them quite helpful & they may be able to recommend where you could buy one. they're in cheltenham - so a bit of a hike for you but if they did have a suggestion i could always pick something up for you & post it?

baker's secret also do a 22cm cake tin - too big? i think it's also a springform one so not sure if that is any use to you. if you google it you should get some results.

the problem with hiring is being able to make a test cake to make sure it works the way we want it to work kwim? we'd have to hire it twice (at least) so that we could trial once and then make her actual cake - and when i factor in hire costs and potential postage both ways twice, i'm better off buying

just mentioned to a local friend who said she is pretty sure she inherited a heart shaped pan from her nan - she's going to look tonight and if she has it, we can use that one. she knows of my love of baking spesh cakes seeing i made her son's birthday cake last year!

now to work out how to get it to side on just enough of an angle that it's obvious what the shape is, but not so steep that Tinks won't be able to sit on it properly!

ETA - i've scoped out all these sites and bookmarked them - i may not need a cake tin now, but i want to expand what we do ourselves with the decorating side of things, so i'll keep them in mind when i have an "i NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED this particular item" moment!
