From cot to toddler bed for DD2

Soon we will be looking at putting DD2 in a toddler bed.
Is it harder with the second one?
We had no issue's with DD1 at 15months she started in toddler bed, maybe fell out once or twice over a period of time, and once or twice walked out of her room when we put her down. It was really easy.
Now with their rooms right next door to each other, im worried about DD2 walking into DD1 and waking her up in the middle of the night.
Both girls usually sleep with their doors closed but DD1 has taken to opening hers.
DD2 has to walk past DD1's room to get to us or anywhere else in the house.
Do i keep DD2's bedroom door shut? even though im worried that i may not hear her get up in the middle of the night?
will the whole swap be just as easy?
will she see her sister in a big bed so therefor transition easy because of that?

What was your experience like with bub #2?

I've just transitioned baby #3 into her toddler bed . I have told each of my three kids on their first night in a bed that they are not to get out of bed unless mummy or daddy comes in to get them and we have had no problems with any of them coming out of their rooms. My eldest is 7 and still waits until I tell him he can come out lol!

How old is your DD2? Mine were aged 22 months (DS1) and 24 months (both DS2 and DD) when I put them into a bed and they were old enough to understand me when I explained that they needed to stay in bed.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Trish

DD1 was 15mths, and was well and truely ready, she was even trying to climb out of her cot, so for her own safety it was best we put her in a bed.
DD2 is only 14mths, but not as of yet showing signs that she may be ready and being my last bub i am in no hurry for her to go in the big girl bed.

That is awesome your 7 year old will still stay in bed until you tell him he can come out DD2 comes out at around 5ish climbs on the couch and goes back to sleep, which we don't mind too much as she isn't waking anyone up, but think maybe we need to stop that habbit?!

Just wanna be prepared with all info and advice

If you're not in a hurry I'd wait until your DD2 is closer to two (just my opinion, feel free to ignore it haha!). I chatted with a friend the other day who had her DD and DS in toddler beds at 18 months and had ongoing problems with them staying in bed that are still a problem to this day (they're 7 and 4 now!), she says she wishes she'd waited until they were a little older and more able to understand the concept of staying in bed.

I can completely understand putting your DD1 in bed if she was climbing out of her cot! Much safer for her for sure. If she's not disturbing anyone when she moves to the couch at 5am and it's not bothering you, then don't stress out too much about it I guess?

yeah DD1 is no problem at all, i guess the sleeping on the couch will on be a problem if DD2 goes out and wakes her up than it will be play time way too early LOL

and your right maybe we should wait, i know i want to, but DH on the other hand has it in his head that DD1 did at 15mths so DD2 should too

I don't see the rush. 15 months seems so young to go out of the cot. If you had to do it for safety then sure, but I'd be aiming to keep them in there for as LONG as possible!
