My beautiful 6mo DS has breastfed exclusively since birth. He's just gone from 7 feeds a day to 6, dropping one overnight (thankfully!). My problem is, for the last week or so, he will literally take the first let-down and then he fusses, screams and rejects the breast after that. He's only feeding every 3-4 hours so I'd assume he'd be hungry but within two minutes he's done. He's a tall and skinny boy, and currently sitting on the 10th percentile for weight, however, he's happy and content. I'm just a bit worried about this feeding pattern and wondering what I should do? Is he getting enough milk? Is my supply going to drop? I've tried feeding him in a quiet room etc but once he's done, he's done! He's not a comfort sucker, just takes what he wants and that's it.
he sounds like he's just become a very efficient feeder! i know with my DS it was almost as if he was offended that i'd keep offering sometimes - like a for goodness sakes mum, i'm done here! it's hard when they change a pattern they've been in for a while! your supply should be fine & if he does decide he wants more again it should pick up to meet the extra demand
my DS was also very efficient at that age and would literally feed for about 1 min and be done. Keep an eye on wet nappies, alertness and growth, if that all seems ok then I would say it is ok Don't be surprised if some days your LO wants to feed more often too.
Agree with the others. My DS can empty a breast in 2 mins flat. He then completely cracks it and punches me in the chest 'till I offer the other side! Took me a while to figure out he was trying to say 'helloooo Mummy, that one's finished!'.
