DD and DS have both had varying degrees of mild eczema since birth. DDs flares up as very dry skin that she scratches and we control with MSM cream,as well as cortisone if it gets really bad. Elbow creases for e.g. this week flared right up so cortisone it was.
She has always had a bit of dry skin on her face but at the moment it's really bad and the msm doesn't seem to be doing much.
No change in diet or anything like that, but just wondering what products others use on the face for kids like this??
Over the years we have tried a lot of products. I steer clear of petro chems and sorbelene, and we use QV type cream sometimes but this seems to need something more? I don't really want to use cortisone on her face as it just seems to be that dry skin they get, not the red ITMS???
Is that the Moogoo MSM cream you are using? If not, I would go to either the website or a health food shop and see what range they have. They have excellent moisturisers and creams and can be used for all ages.
The weather could be playing havoc as well, if you are in Melbourne, the humidity would not be pleasant I would imagine on skin that is already sensitive.
I too was going to recommend the moogoo cream I'm going to be ordering some of their shampoo and conditioner to try as everything else leaves my scalp covered in sores or dry, flakey skin.
when DS's face is playing up (not often anymore thankfully) we use sigmacort 1% (steroid) - you can get a 30g tube over the chemist counter (50g ones need a Dr script). We put some Moo goo msm on top of the steroid cream. Usually clears up within a couple of days.
Thanks all, yep moo goo MSM. Have some 1% too so might try a teeny bit as well as using the mg shampoo on her too. Didn't think of the weather , Melbourne has been all over the place!
I have done that too babe, haven't for a while though in the bath so will do it again. This is mainly on her face at the mo though - it's really weird. Not red at all but all dry and bumpy? The other day it was a bit red and rashy from her cheeks up to the side of her eyes ITMS. Makes me worry it is something else but I am not sure what it would be - her whole face now seems to be covered in this weird bumpy rash that isn't red! Put some Dermaveen on it tonight and will see how it is on Monday morning and if it hasn't gone will take her to see my GP.
When my DSno.4 was about 6 months, he had a rash around the nappy area that was angry red and raised. I tried every imaginable cream, calendula ointments, zinc cream, antifungal, anti bacterial, cortisol.... everything!
I finally had to take him to a dermatoilgist after Drs keep telling me it was nappy rash. No way was it!
Anyway, hubby & FIL has psorisis, in different areas, and it can be heraditary, so specialist assumed it was that. He wrote a script for a cream that would never make it go away, but would "treat it"....
Then he went on to tell me to ignore the warning label on how the cream has nuerotoxin additives
So, I never got that scrpit filled or ever went back to that Dr!
I went instead to a nathropath that just recommended fish oil. She recommended hypol omega 3 liquid. It smells exreeeeemly fishy!!! about 10ml, x3 a day for 2 weeks, then just every day to get levels up.
The rash disapeared and has never come back. My 2 DD also had mild skin problems, one all over her back, the other on her face, so I treated them too. They all really liked the fish oil dispite the smell, and they all will chomp on fish capsuals now like lollies!
Makes sense to treat from the inside out for great skin.
ps.... sorry for all the crappy spelling, brian is like mush today!
