no deoderant/perfume prior to EPU and Transfer- anyone?

    Has anyone heard of this?

Last transfer, the nurse told me not to wear perfume/moisturiser/ etc on the day of my transfer as the 'embryos dont' like it'. I had never been told this before ( I don't know about anyone else, but cos there is someone fiddling around down there I like to have nicely moisturised legs to compensate ).

Now, I just got called from the centre doing my EPU tomorrow for preadmission stuff and she said dont' wear any deoderant or perfume before my egg pick up basically for the same reason. No deoderant?? Luckily its not going to be hot tomorrow but is this going too far?? OF course I will do anything to get pregnant but I also don't want to stink like BO all day, and I have never followed this regime before so surely a little smidge of deoderant isn't going to hurt.

    What would you do?

    Hey Saffy,

My clinic are very strict in enforcing this and there are signs everywhere saying so. We arent allowes make up, deo, perfume, moisturiser anyhing basically.

When I was in having my ET on Saturday I heard the nurse say that she has just sent a lady to have a shower because she was covered in perfume. Apparently it can really harm the embryo.

    Good luck! xxx

Yeah. I never wear anything with any scent. That includes not washing my hair.

I figure at the very least it can't hurt!

Oh, I don't use soap when I shower that morning either!

I don't care if I stink offending other people is the least of my problems

Hi Saffy, If you're worried about BO you could try a crystal deodorant? It's completely natural and has absolutely no scent. Good luck tomorrow.

Yeah I never wore anything either... I think it's best to follow their instructions. Anytime you go into an operating theatre you are expected to be free from all of those things, even for an ET. Sorry I wouldn't use crystal deodorant either.

I was always told not to use deodorant or perfume. I was also told not to use soap either. That was for my Lap, EPU, ET and my D&C's.

It does seem strange that they didn't tell you right from the get go.

I've swapped clinics, my first never mentioned it, my second told me after I'd already had 2 transfers but maybe they thought I already knew from the first!

we were told no purfume etc.. and no smoking the morning of the pick up and t/f (not that either DH and I are smokers) Even DH wasn't allowed to, which I understood for pickup, because he often powders, and that would be a problem with they go to pick up his boys, but not even on t/f.

    yeah! why is that???

It's on the paperwork for mine.... but I thought it was a 'procedure/surgery' thing... not an embie thing...

I never thought about washing my hair though N2L....... something else to add to the stress list....

are we going with the theory that embies don't like it when they are OUTSIDE the body, so after collection and before ET? not after ET? cause..... preg women wear smelly stuff... don't they??? or am I expected to stink for the next 9 months???

yeah.... I know it's a stupid question.. but if I don't ask... I will second guess myself!!!

Hmmm, that's one of the weirdest things I've ever heard. Never been told that by our clinic, never heard about it from other IVFers either

    Interesting .................................
