Roseola Virus in 2 yr old

My DS has had fevers since Sunday and they haven't gone away. I have taken him to the doctor for 3 days in a row to see if he has had any other symptoms and he could only see that he had swollen lymph glands and runny nose but other than that just the fever.

So today I walk into our daycare centre and see on the door that there is a virus called Roseola Virus going around, so I called up and they said that there was only one reported case.
I am afraid that DS will be the second He has had all the symptoms I have read about and now its just meant to get worse!

It said, Roseola is thought to be caused by the human herpes virus six.
Within twenty four hours later (after the fever has disappeared)a rash will appear on the neck, upper arms and the trunk, and then spread to the face and legs.Your baby may also get diarhea, nausea, and vomitting. You will notice swollen lymph glands under the baby's neck. You may notice the symptoms of the common cold such as runny nose, loss of appetite, irritability, and sore throuat. When the rash subsides, all the other symptoms will leave also. The total duration of all symptoms is usually 7 to ten days.

Its meant to be common in infants under the age of 1 but can get it up to age 3. The rest of us DS1, DH and I have had a horrible vomiting bug, so I am wondering if this is a form of it in older people or just a coincidence?
We are meant to be going to Vanuatu on Tuesday so I am freaking out.

Has any one else had their child with this virus?

We havent had it here - but 3 bubs in my mothers group have had it in the last month.
They all said, once the rash came up and had been there for a couple of days - the bubs were generally happier and back to being quite active and their usual selves.

Sorry not much help. Hope he is better soon!

DS had it when he was about 18 months. It really wasn't a big deal, but I think he had a relatively minor case. He did have a runny nose and mild fever the week before, but again very mild, not enough to take him to the doctors. Then we got the rash, which looked awful but didn't bother him. It was at this stage that I took him to the GP and he was diagnosed with roseola.

From memory, once the rash comes out they are no longer contagious and by that point the other symptoms are gone. So I wouldn't worry about going away next week, unless of course other members of the family come down with it. And I doubt that the vomiting bug you've all had is related. FWIW I understand that the vomiting etc with roseola is very rare, it's usually just a pretty mild bug which is more of an inconvenience than anything else. HTH

DD1 had it at just over 2 years. She was pretty sick and lethargic but when the rash came her fever broke and she was feeling much better. From memory I think it was about 4 days all up that she was not her usual self. I panicked when I first heard she had roseola - sounds very bad to me - but it is actually an etremely common and relatively minor childhood illness.

Like Miss E says - I think you'll be fine for your trip next week.

Oh thank goodness! I know google isn't a good idea but I just had to see what it was and there you go, I started to stress!

He has had a fever since Sunday of around 38 to 40 and has been on panadol since then as it seems to work more than nurofen. He is so unhappy, has no energy, cries, though he is having quite large naps during the day and the sweat pouring off him is just horrible that I cut his hair just to stop it sticking to his face.

So fingers crossed the fever breaks and the rash isn't too bad, or doesn't even get it at all. I can hope. Thanks again for relieving my stress!
