    Toddler temperament & personality

Please help me understand your toddler's temperament and personality!

The reason I ask is that my little guy isn't too fussed on eye contact. He'll look at me, but never as long as my friends DS! So I'm thinking is it just temperament? I'm sure it must be as they are different in so many other ways.

So I guess I'm asking that you tell me the temperament of your LO and at what age you could really see it emerging?

DS' personality has been noticeable since he was about 12 months, though more so since about 18 months. He is usually a very happy, very easygoing, quite cheeky little guy. Having said that, he is also clingy and lacks confidence and has been this way since just a few months old. He is very stubborn and has just started having mini obsessions - last week it was The Gigglemobile and he wouldn't listen to any other music and wanted it over and over and over and if it wasn't on, Mummy had to sing it!! He's only just started playing on his own for short periods (up to 10 mins, though more usually around 2-3 mins), has never liked being around others his age (is intimidated by them I think) and doesn't take risks like other kids his age. He's not the running around, noisy, boisterous, typical toddler like most other toddlers. He has never tried to climb ANYTHING, even stands with his hands out for me to help him out of the front door (1/2 step down) or onto his trike (which he prefers pushing to riding on anyway). He always wants to be around other adults, though he doesn't seem to mind if it's not someone he's close to. He has always loved being held and cuddled, though it's only in the last 3-4 months that he'll ask for a kiss.

DS doesn't make a lot of eye contact either, though doesn't avoid it - I don't think that's unusual in toddlers though. HTH
