So I'm having my midlife crisis and looking into career options. Can anyone tell me the good, the bad and the ugly about midwifery as a career? I'd have to got back to uni to do a BMid. I have 2 kids under 2 at the moment, so interested in how "family friendly" it is.
It is an awesome job but the study is full on and lots of classes and placements and they don't care about commitments etc its a case of this is your placement hospital and shifts you will do it.
Very rewarding job can be heart breaking and confronting but the good is much more prominent than the not good.
As for working as a MW and it being family friendly it depends on what family support you have for looking after children. As you will be expected to work all shifts (early, late and nights) all days including weekday weekend and public holidays. And as wrong as it is as the new commer you often get the worst, especially as a grad as they need to have so many junior and senior staff per shift for skill mix.
I love my job but it can be hard to juggle with kids if you have no family close by.
