We put our bed on the floor!
Hiyaz,
We co-sleep with DD even though she's got her own cot which has been placed somewhat like an extension to our bed. My question to experienced co-sleepers out there, when they can start crawling and/or walking, do you keep them in your bed still for day naps? I'm just thinking about how to prevent DD from falling off the bed. Only options I can think of are - put her in the cot - have our 'bed' really low/mattress only on the floor.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

We put our bed on the floor!
We sleep on a mattress on the floor. (our choice because of back issues, it actually does help)
Or I know of someone else who put their bed against the wall on one side. I'm not sure how they manage to get in & out all the time, but they do.
For day sleeps ds sleeps on the floor with a pillow and blankie.
We taught DD early how to get off the bed safely- well, we actually taught her how to get off the couch safely and she used same method to get off the bed. I would feed her to sleep on the bed and leave pillows along the side. I had a baby monitor and would listen for her to wake.
We use a cot. It is in our room about 1 metre from the bed and he has his day sleeps and first sleep of the night in there... and then all night when the sleeping through starts!
Thank you for all the replies.
That's a good one hotl.
We're being edged out of our double bed by a wriggly DD. So debating on getting a king size one. That would mean cot & bed prob won't fit. But considering we hardly use the cot anyways only reason I could think of using is for security reasons for day naps. Hence my question. :-)
Thanks ladies. Keep it coming if there's anymore. I'm one of the first amongst my friends co-sleeping so haven't got many to bounce ideas off. In fact many coming after are using me as example. So hopefully this enhances that gentle/attachment parenting is safe, enjoyable & do-able. :-)

you can also get side rails that fit under the mattress. if you child moves to their own bed later you could use it again.
Like HotI we taught ds2 how to get off the bed backwards from the minute he could crawl...especially after Ds1 fell off the bed a few times eep!
Also we put cushions around like a barrier and he used to call out before getting off!
Good luck x
We have a side car cot that acts as a barrier, and then bed up against a wall...and yes it's hard to get in and out of. So the only problem area is the bottom of the bed, because ds could crawl off...I'm very vigilant about going to him as soon as I hear a sound, and the next step is to teach him to get off safely. Dd fell off once and then always climbed off safely and would just come crawling or walking out when she woke up...very cute!
I've been eyeing those rails too. I actually wondered if I could put them around the bed. Hehe. :-)

Just an update. Tried the rails. They dont work very well with futons. Running out of room on Double bed due to roaming/rolling baby. Ended up getting cheap really low king size futon. Aaah the room!!! And low enuf if she falls off I'm not that stressed.
Thanks ladies!!

I use a video monitor. Was expensive but definitely worth it.
