    Detox while breastfeeding....

So i dont know much about detoxing, i do know you arnt meant to do it while breastfeeding. toxins in milk etc.etc. But i have been eating such crap lately and not taking care of my body atall. I want to do something though. Ive read a few sites but cant seem to get a straight answer on what would be a good idea, only what NOT to do.

    Any Ideas.

Best detox you can do for you and your breastmilk, is to go back to basics - cut out ALL processed and packaged food. If it isn't aa single ingredient (like fruit, vege, meat, oats, etc) don't eat it. (of course you can mix these single ingredient to create a meal, but don't include anything refned, processed or packaged). Do start taking a multivitimin everyday if you don't already, but do NOT take any of those 'herbal' (or otherwise) detox 'pills' on the market.

thanks, i did start doing that this morning. i figured that would be the best place to start. and i dont want to do any silly fasting or only eating one type of thing, apart from not being a good thing to do while breast feeding, i get WAY too grumpy without food. I guess dairy is out too?? even my lovely greek yogurt??

basic dairy (ie, milk) should be fine, but if anything is added (ie, preservatives, additives, colours, flavours, sugars are sweeteners, etc) then it would be out. Check your ingredients list on the greek yogurt.

Another option could be to try the Week 1 meal plan for the 1 Million Kilo challenge....

I would do the whole foods thing and cut down on foods like dairy but not yoghurt, so instead of milk you can have rice milk, etc. When I was breastfeeding I had to go on an elimination diet because my DD was allergic to some foods. I did all unprocessed foods and alternated. Most detoxes are similar to a very healthy diet with limited protein and no dairy and no wheat or lower fibre carbs. I think as long as you don't limit the protein (you both need it right now!) and cut back on dairy and wheat based foods, you should be fine. I agree with following the 1Million Kilo Challange first week diet, it was designed to be a mini detox for those dieting, a basic one. Just increase your calories by adding snacks to that week from the snack list! You need more calories a day, but they need to be good calories in order to be detox foods

Low energy is a side effect that you will have for a few days, but it goes!
