    Barking cough.

Every now and then, maybe once or twice a day, DS has a small coughing "fit" (best I can describe it).
ETA- by a fit I mean 5 or 6 coughs in a row. He doesn't seem to have trouble breathing.
It's a loud, dry, bark. It sounds awful. I don't know what is causing it, he's not sick, usually it's when he's been running around/ excited, but not always.

Any ideas what is causing it?

It's been going on for about 2 weeks. He seems fine otherwise.

It's possible, I had exercise induced asthma as child, which was also triggered by chlorine.

It's it normal for it to just start one day though? He's always been extremely active, but the cough had only started in the last couple of weeks.

My husband is like this and it turns out he has a dust mite allergy. We have terribly old carpet in the house we're in, which is to blame.
I'd raise it with the Dr next time you're there.

My son has very mild asthma - before he was diagnosed, every cold always started with a big barking cough. So I would wonder about asthma too. I must admit in our case, the asthma diagnosis has really just provided peace of mind ensuring that we know what to watch out for, & have a ventolin on hand

My son had a reoccurring cough for at least a couple of months before they would diagnose asthma and give him a preventative.

Hmm ok. I'll have to find us a new doctor and talk to them about it.
    Thanks folks.

Thanks, me too. I hope it's not some chronic thing. Living with asthma sucked
