Yes i let my boys have one once a week. I generally pick a day when i am low on food. We live remote so supermarket isn't easily accessible.
They generally have either toasted sandwich or mini pizza or dim sims. A small milk drink and in summer an icypole in winter pop corn.
My canteen does allow them to just order say just a drink or icypole so sometimes i do that only.
We've decided to let DD have one on the last Friday of the month...she's yet to have one lol though she had pizza and slushie day yesterday. As for what she gets I'll be aiming for the healthier things like wraps etc..
Eldest has jacket spud $4 and $2 for morning tea.
year 2 has pie and sauce or salad plate $4 and $1.50 for morning tea.
year 1 has sausage roll and sauce $3.70 and $1.50 for morning tea.
All our food is homemade and healthy. We are a small school and only have lunch orders on monday.
I love monday morning!
DD1 had I think 3 lunch orders last year through kindy and is asking for them again now in pre-primary. They have a standard menu, and then a "special" each day. I tried to give her the healthy option last year but even though I wrote in detail on the order what to do, it turned up with a couple of things she didn't like (butter being the main one) so she didn't touch it. Next couple of times were a hot dog and a fruit box, which I think is $3.50
DD2 has now started kindy and is an extremely fussy eater so I think I'll let them each have the hot dog on a Monday once per semester.
DS starts school next year and we are planning on letting him a lunch order once a week. I think the prices at school are pretty cheap compared to a lot of places.
My boy was having one each friday last year but we haven't really done that this year so far.
He usually has a chicken burger with lettuce +mayo and a milk (usually strawberry or chocolate). He tried a few different things but seems to always go back to the chicken burger.
They were $3.50 last year. I think it's like $4 this year, not quite sure as he hasn't had one yet and I haven't really had a good look at the sheet with the prices etc.
ETA: The canteen is only open monday and friday.

The local shop does the school orders. Last year they did Mon and Fri, this year only Fri. So about once a fortnight DD1 is allowed to get a lunch order.
She mostly chooses hot dog, or lasagne, sometimes mini pies or pizza
Drink is either a flavoured milk or fruit box
Sweet is often half a hedgehog slice or finger bun
Averages between $6.00 and $6.80
Dd1 started school this year and has had 1 lunch order which was a pie and an on it was about$3.70 they can only get lunch and the local deli makes the food. The menu is small, burger with salad, pies pasties ect sandwhiches and rolls and yoghurt. Plain milk, apple or orange juice and milk. I'm aiming in only having 1 lunch order a month.
My dd isn't a fan of pies normally she just wanted a lunch order!
I allow it once a term. I have 3 at school now. It averages out to about $5 each. They generally have a hot dog each and a small drink. Our school canteen is run by an independent company.
Probably about once a month - they only have them on Thursday and Friday and they are all $4. They either have pasta or somalian pancakes with a choice of 3 sauces somalian cheese, meat or vegetable.
I would let her have it more often but as the orders have to be by Wednesday morning I am usually lacking in organisational skills to manage it more than once a month
We do once a week here, I still pack her normal lunchbox for morning tea, fruit break and some fruit/cut up salad to have with lunch and then she usually gets a ham sandwich or mini pizza from the canteen. It costs about 3.50 a week
DD is in prep and not yet have one...despite pleading every day. We will let her as a treat every now and again. We have told her she can have one this week on Friday.
Our school is an accredited "healthy eating school" so they are restricted in what they can sell. DD wants the noodles or a vegemite sandwhich. I may have "forgotten" to mention they sell pizza when I read the list to her.
On days above 30 degrees she gets money for an icey pole.
My DD usually has 1 or 2 a month. I don't have to send money and do all the ordering online - so no way things get lost or missed
She usually gets a chicken salad box, each one lasts 2 lunchtimes (they put it in the staff fridge for her)
Lunch orders are tough for us as DD is a type 1 diabetic and I have to plan her carb intake and note it all down so the aide knows how much insulin to give her. She did ask for a slushee tonight but not knowing the sugar/carb content I had to say no.
She does also get the occasional sausage roll, but she's such a veggie and salad girl she loves sharing her food with her aide (who is also diabetic!)
