Adult Whopping Cough Booster while Breast Feeding????

So I have a one week old newborn who is fully breast feed & I'm booked in today to have my whopping cough vaccination. I know on the pamphlets it says safe while breast feeding but I am a little skeptical.

So my question is.... Who's had the booster while breast feeding?

When DS was born I was in hospital for 7 days and breastfeeding. On the 7th day when I left the hospital I had the booster shot.

What are you hoping to learn from that question? I'm not trying to antagonise you, it's just that you just sound uncertain and I wonder if you have thought about why the booster bothers you and what information would help you.

Your right I am a little uncertain. I'm uncertain about having the vaccine in my body while breast feeding my cherub. While she will be vaccinated this just feels different. I guess I was just wanting some comfort in the fact other Mum's vaccinated while breast feeding. I will voice my concerns with my Doctor though.

Perhaps you could ask your doctor to provide you with information showing that having the vaccination and it's ingredients added to your body while BFing has been proven to be safe. And make the distinction between 'proven safe' and 'not found to be harmful'.

It's understandable to be worried. I had some trepidation about requiring a tetanus booster at 39 weeks pregnant with DS (thanks cat) so discussed the pros and cons with my doctor before having it done. I also had the WC booster about 2 weeks after giving birth, neither caused any problems for either myself or DS

I had the whooping cough booster 6 days after DD was born, my OB gave me the prescription and a midwife in hospital gave me the injection itself.

As it turns out I couldn't have the booster due to small infection in CS cut.

I had the booster when DS2 was one week old and he was fully BF'd. From memory, the vaccination included tetanus. There was no difference in me or DS2 afterwards.

I had th WC booster as part of a pact with DD1 having her 4yo lot, while feeding DD2, no issues.

Ooh, hope that heals up quickly for you

I got one the day after Amelia was born, with her in my arms because I was pooing my pants and knew if I held her I'd do my beat not to shake (I'm a bit scared of needles and hadn't had any injections in about ten years )

Scott got his when she had her first needles (not that it matters, he's not feeding her!)

The Boostrix is Whooping cough, Tetanus and Dipheria all in 1 injection.

It is routine to offer in hospital to all mums after giving birth nowadays. And a large % take up the offer with no side effects.

For some reason they gave me just a straight tetanus shot after the cat bite while pregnant, hence later then needing to confirm if I could even have the WC one as it would repeat the tetanus component within a very short timeframe.
