And I'm not coping well at all!!! Seeing her in pain and scared of vomiting is awful. I am totally freaked out by vomit too so I've been useless!! DH has stayed up with her in the lounge all night while I hung out in our bedroom hoping and praying that DD2 doesn't catch it.
What sort of mother am I? I always knew tummy bugs would be a tough one for me and I've been so lucky to avoid them until now but I hoped I'd be able to pull it together, but no. I'm a basket case. I haven't slept cause I'm so anxious.
How will I ever get over this stupid fear of mine? My poor DD wanted her mummy and I couldn't be there for her. Thankfully daddy was a good substitute last night.
Boohoo. I feel yuk, I am so worried (for both DD's and DH and I) and feel like an idiot. I thought I'd outgrow this stupid fear!! Argh.
That sucks She did well to get this far though! I am useless at spew too - that is a DH job here. Hopefully it is a 24 hour thing and the worst is over
My DD hasn't had a tummy bug yet and i'm not looking forward to it either. Reminds me i should really keep some hydrolite in the house for those moments.
I'm a sympathy chucker so if i see someone throw up i usually always follow so i dont know how well ill do in the same situation.
Thanks for making me feel more 'normal' girls It's been horrible and I'm so grateful DH took over. He really has been super dad.
I just went out to check on them (I'm trying to keep DD2 and me isolated) and she's passed out on our outdoor lounge. She is buggered! Looks like she might have finally stopped vomiting - its been 9 hours now. Poor little poppet!
I feel so squeamish but I think it's more in sympathy and being anxious. I feel like a sitting duck though, surely it's only a matter of hours or days til I get it. She gave me a beautiful sloppy goodnight kiss on the lips last night. I think I'm screwed
We have just DS with his first vomiting bug too I know how you feel I don't cope with vomit either Isn't it awful seeing them freaked out because they don't understand what's happening I hope it passes quickly and no one else gets it
Oh goodness I know exactly how your feeling and your poor DD
We have been through quite a few tummy bugs but the worst one happened about a month ago. I am also a complete mess emotionally and cannot handle seeing my DS's sick!
Unfortunately for us we all caught it so we camped out in the lounge room on the floor with buckets and towels.
It was one of the most exhausting few days of my life.
DS1 kept asking for a drink as he was so thirsty and then a min later would vomit it all back up as he couldn't keep a thing down.
Oh poor lil sweet chicken, I hope she is on the mend. Don't be too hard on yourself, you just don't like seeing your baby in pain/sick and that is totally understandable. Also if you were with her and were a mess and not coping, then it would stress her out more to see you so upset! DH also deals with the boys if they have a tummy bug, it's just one thing I cannot deal with. I would be crying right along side them!
Thanks heaps ladies. It is really reassuring to know I'm not alone.
Well DD seemed to be on the mend but just spewed again - 5 hours since the last one. I thought it was backing off. We are at a loss. What do we do? Is that normal with gastro for it to finish then start up again??
It did with DS. I thought it was over and it was 5 or 6 hours later he started again. It was a strange bug here though he came good for a couple of days eating and drinking normally seeming fine, then he ended up being a bit off again. No more vomits but a few dodgy poos. Took a good week to clear completely.
Keep her fluids up, water water water! If you get worried take her to the doctor for a check.
Poor baby. DD2 had bad gastro last year and we were told to expect it to be on and off for a couple of days or so, but so long as she could keep fluids down (we had to syringe 10ml water into her every 15 minutes at one point because any greater amount came straight back up) it will run its course and no need to worry. When she got hungry again we gave her something like grated green apple or plain toast but it took well over a week before she was normal again.
I usually end up in the shower with mine when they're vomiting because I always end up joining in with them. Green snot, fevers, rashes etc are sooooo much easier to deal with than vomit. I hope your DD's better soon, and the rest of you manage to miss out on it.
I hope your DD1 feels much better soon hun. I'm one of those people that run a mile whenever anyone is sick. Not that I'm squeamish about people vomiting, it's a fear of catching it too. Boohoo to me too. Don't feel bad hun xox
Gastro is just awful You girl's have made me feel better though.
Well DD is finally asleep and hopefully she'll stay that way for a good 12 hours! We ended up taking her to emergency on the recommendations of Health Direct. She was sick when we arrived but quickly bounced back and besides looking awfully tired, she was really good. All her obs were fine and we were told we just need to ride it out. Vomiting could last for up to 48 hours (eeek!) and the general unwell feeling for about a week. Yuk.
DD was starving when we got home so she had a handful of hot chips, half a bottle of water then her milk then she fell straight to sleep. She's pooped! I really hope she's done spewing but the amount she ate/drank has me worried. DH is sleeping with her in the lounge again, bless him.
Do toddlers just bounce back that quickly and eat/drink normally when they feel well again?
Both DH and I ended up with it too (much milder though) but poor DD vomited every night until Thursday bar Wednesday! It was only once each night so her gag reflex must have been weak from all the trauma! Poor poppet.
So glad it's over and hope we never go through such a bad bout again!
Oh no poor little thing Bummer you guys got it too, we were the same here, DP and I got it but no actual vomiting, luckily, just nausea, bloating and fatigue.
