I'm sure there is squillions of threads on constipated bubs but I'm to exhausted to search them, I've last spent the last 3 hours trying to settle my screaming baby, he's exactly 3 months old today and over the last 3 weeks he's pooed twice he's tense and straining and clearly in agony but I have no idea how to help him, we've tried brauers stomach calm, infants friend, coloxyl, diluted prune juice, bicycle legs and tummy massages but still no poo! About this time last week he pooed for the first time in 5 days and he was back to his usual happy self for 3 or 4 days but now he's in pain again! He's exclusively breast fed as well! Help I want my happy, chatty, poo-flowing bubba back
Hi hon. Sorry your little man is in pain. It's very unlikely to be constipation though. Exclusively breastfeed babies don't generally get constipated and easily go 10 days between poos. Sounds like there is something else going on. Possibly colic, reflux, just plain old wind?
Poor darling, nothing worse than little ones being in pain. As Taurean mentioned, exclusively breastfed babies rarely get constipated. I remember with DS he went 14 days once without a poo and then did a normal poo, followed by another 10 day stint! Amazing how breast milk is used so efficiently by their bodies - but there was a difference because he was never in pain and it sounds like your little one is in quite a bit. I would be calling your MCHN or GP and having a chat about it, as the pain he is having combined with him not pooing frequently could be something else and it might be best to get him checked out xoxoxo
A friend of mine her also exclusivly BF baby got constipated like this and as you have done she tryed everything possible. In the end she saw a pead and her daughter was put on parachoc of something similar and had to have it daily for about a year and then wean of it, now at nearly 4 she is fine.
Hugs I hope you find something to work soon for your poor baby. xoxo
My DS didn't poo in 18 days exclusively BF and was fine. We were starting to get worried. When he did finally poop it was the same normal consistency. Just lots of it!!!
