    Whooping Cough

So dd1 brings home a note last Monday. It says that there has been a case of whooping cough at their school. Dd1 has a little cough, bit like a tickle in the back of the throat but no sick at all. I decide to be way over cautious and call the school to see what year level the kid was in. It turns out the child was in dd1s class. So Tuesday morning I take them to the dr as I dont want it on my head if they are contagious. Dr says likelyhood is low as they aren't sick and dd1 is vaxx. So the three oldest are tested. Dd1 comes back positive on thursday. Dd2 and ds are negative. I am so glad I kept them home all week. We all started Abs.

Now I am wondering of your kids have had whooping Cough. How sick did they get? Dd1 and dd2 clave a cough, nasty but not bad if you get what I mean. I wouldn't have made them go to a dr yet and they would have gone to school Tuesday and Wednesday for sure. Ds has snot ams a tiny cough and dd3 is snotty, temps but no cough.

The thing is they ALL seem better today? Could it really be over that quick??

I know the cough hangs around but gee really I thought the worst of it was yet to come?

Ds and dd3 aren't immunised. Dd2 is partially and dd1 is fully.

So really crap advertising for vaccinating if you ask me but this is not a thread for debating immunisation. I just wanted to give you the history.

So again how did you kids cope with Whooping cough and how old were they?

    Thanks.

With older kids it can be very mild - it varies of course. The cough can come and go, I think, also, and if they're vaccinated it tends to present atypically.
The vaccine isn't terribly effective for pertussis, no.
    Hope they are all fine

Thanks mad. It's just hard to know what's going to happen next. Obviously I am so scared Molly will get very sick still
