ds1 had grommets put in last november. best thing we ever did. his hearing and speech has improved enormously.
he had his tonsils and adenoids put at the same time, so it was quite a full on operation and we stayed overnight.
are you going private or public?
Ok, our surgeon offered us a date about 3 weeks after the initial appointment but we couldn't take it due to a planned holiday so we ended up getting it done about 7 weeks after the initial appointment.
My ds got his done two days after the appointment, although we had been having regular hearing checks in the 8 mths leading up but when the decision was made he had the op within days. He got sick on the day o it was pushed back a week. Best thing we ever did. Only in for a few hours and instant change it was amazing to see when he woke at home after his pm sleep. Ds was just over 1 year when he got them.
DD2 had her first lot at 16 months (June 10) she had then 5 days after appointment because the concern was that if we left it longer she'd get sick again, we took the first available time, was in and out of hospital within a few hours, no pain.
We were lucky her's lasted 18 months before they fell out completely, unfortunately she already had glue ear again and had her second lot in and adenoids out 6 weeks ago, we waited longer this time beause we found out just prior to christmas, she was in recovery much longer due to adenoids, about 4 hours longer.
Both times were private.
DS will go in for Grommets on Tuesday. I'm very happy that things are going so quickly. ENT suggested that there might be permanent damage but we won't know until after surgery. Fingers crossed everything goes 100%.
DS1 has grommets plus tonsils and adenoids out and he stayed overnight but we had to stay in the metro area for 2 weeks post op. He still has a hearing loss in the left ear however the op kept getting put off due to his poor health, his ears were in a bad way, lots of build up in there.
