Depends on the time. South bank is a short(ish) distance that is a good family spot. There's play grounds, markets, man made beach..

The weather hasn't been great though.

Sorry should have stipulated we arrive at 530 am and leave again at 3pm so would need to be back by 2pm. Is there buses that go there or is it walking distance?

Definitely not walking distance... Brissie airport is in the middle of no-where!

You could catch a taxi to the DFO, or a train into the city. Beware though, the return train fare is not cheap especially with 3 of you, so you might be better of catching a taxi into town anyway.

If you do make it into the city, there is a childrens expo at GOMA (gallery of modern art) at the far end of south bank, and a great museum, that the kids might love.
