    Newborn out-pooping all nappies

My 2 month old DS leaks whenever he poops. It happens with AIOs itti bittis and BHs, also with disposables. I don't think i have had a leak with the fitteds and covers, but they don't hold as much wee and i don't have enough of them to use all the time. The leaks are usually out the legs but can be out the back as well. I am changing as soon as he poops but they just can't hold it in.

Is this just something to work around? (keep changes of clothes!) He is in smalls, i tried a medium itti bitti but that was worse.

Sorry I don't think I can help, my DS who is now 4 months had a habit of doing that but kept it mainly to occasions when we were out of the house.

I think sometimes it is more the force with which is comes out as much as anything else.

Hope someone else can come along with some ideas.

are they on nice and firm??? Also have you tried the old fashion squares?? Some babies are just tricky like that, if it is on nice and snug it should reduce it, and I would use covers until it settles down, even over the disposables, they rinse and dry faster then clothes!

My little guy did explosive poos (and cried everytime he did one, just to keep things fun). All I did was put him in one nappy size bigger, which did the trick. Only one size up gave us the extra room, whilst being able to still make it snuggly enough to keep in any poonamies. We only used disposibles. Good Luck

    Covers over the AIO's?

I had to use only fitteds and covers with C for a while because he always leaked out. I discovered he needed a longer rise than the AIO's had. This is one reason why I started making my own too so I could custom fit and boost for him.

Newborn poop can escape anything! Mine outpooped every nappy including several different brands of disposables. Very annoying but unfortunately unavoidable IMO. It will get better once solids start, as the poop firms up a bit. My only suggestion would be to pop a pul cover over the nappy for an extra level of protection.

We're having the same problem using anything other than fitteds and covers. I'd use covers over the itti bittis.

I feel a bit silly now, hadn't even thought of putting cover over the aio. i think that should work well.

Don't feel silly. I didn't think of it until DD was a few months old & wanted to cover a disposable up under a dress then realised the added benefit. DS pooped on me too many times to count. I wish I had thought of it earlier. I hope it works for you.

Nothing to contribute except empathy - my five week old does the same!

I've always found that using a size slightly larger than DS needs helps with all kinds of leaks. The bigger the nappy, the more absorbent, right? Of course it has to fit still though

I think I've been lucky to only experience a couple of poosplosions which have escaped the nappy so far. *touch wood* lol. Good luck!

For us, flats or prefolds & covers. Never had a leak with them.

Could you grap a pack or 2 of terry flats from the supermarket? With DD I started out with 3 covers. I alternated them, letting them air between uses so I only had to wash them once a day. (purple to pink, air purple, pink to blue, air pink, blue back to purple etc)

Outters of SIO's can be used as covers too

Terry fabric is awesome for 'grabbing' nb poo, the big quantity in seconds is just too much for the AIOs with the suedecloth/fleece inner i found. I used to try and time my Bam Bams (fitteds made from terry) for poos, or use a flat and cover.

Can you boost your fitteds to make them more absorbent? Just a single booster should do. I have extras if you want.
