I'm a bit worried about Amelia She's been grabbing at her ears and the back of her neck for weeks now, which I put down to a combination of new teeth and her just playing cute. On Saturday, I noticed the back of her head seemed a touch out of shape, but forgot to check it out later.
Well, we've just had a bath, and it was more pronounced with her hair wet and flat. It's on the back of her head to the right (and a smaller one on the left), where her skull meets her neck.
I've done some googling, but the only results I found are about small, soft lumps. Those were lymph nodes. These are about the size of a curled-up thumb and as hard as bone. I've felt the back of my own head to see if it's normal - assuming my head is normal! - but I don't have them.
We're going to the doctor tomorrow, but does anyone have any idea what it could be, so I can go in and say "could it be this, that or the other?"?
I have no idea what it could be, I'm glad you are booked into the GP to have them checked. Please don't Google any more, it will only cause you more stress. It could turn out to be something simple so it's best not to get yourself worried by reading worst case scenarios .
My DD has just had an U/S and chest x-ray because of a weird lump in her neck, it all turned out to be OK so I hope you have the same kind of experience and find out it's nothing to worry about too .
I hope you get the answers you need from your GP and that your mind is put at ease tomorrow xxx
Thanks I only googled to see if it's something common, but now I see it's not I'll stop I'll write a list of things to mention, because I'm hopeless at remembering things when I'm talking to doctors!
Our DS had a lump like that on the left side of his head. We noticed it early because he had no hair. It felt just like his skull but was a different shape to the other side of his head. We took him to the Dr. and the doctor said that it was just his head shape. He said that maybe it was from how DS slept as a baby as he did favour that side when sleeping. Most importantly he told us that it was nothing to worry about as it wasn't a lump, it was his actual skull.
We actually just got back The doctor didn't think it was anything, but gave me a referral to get Amelia's head ultrasounded just in case. I really like this doctor, we've never seen her before. I think we'll be seeing her a lot more in future
Well, I'm glad you've found a Dr you are happy with, it makes a huge difference! Glad to here she isn't too concerned. It sounds similar to my DD the other week. We had a lump in her neck checked at the GP, were then sent for an U/S then a chest x-ray and it all came back fine. She just has a freaky vein that pops out when she cries lol! I reckon it'll be a cool party trick one day .
Hope the u/s comes back fine and I hope you're feeling a bit more at ease
Just wondering if you care to let us know about the ultrasound findings? I know this post was awhile ago, but my wife and I have the same exact thing you described, even down to how I noticed it in the bathtub when his hair was lying flat. We had our dr take a look, but she said she wasn't concerned and didn't tell us to go anywhere for follow-up. I've done the same exact thing as you (felt my head / neck area) to see if it's normal and my son's is more pronounced. He's also been pulling at his ears and kind of swatting at the area of the lump. The dr did say to 'keep an eye on it', but I've pretty much been obsessing about it since I saw it, worried that it's causing him pain or a sign of something serious that dr. missed. Any insight would be appreciated.
Sorry I can't help, but as far as I can remember the ultrasound was pretty much pointless and didn't show anything. I think eventually it was just put down to her head growing slightly faster in one part than the rest? I really can't remember at all... Just had a feel of her head now and it seems normal. Hopefully your little one is the same and nothing's wrong
