    First Degree Heart Block

Is this something that typically gets worse with weight gain? I'm madly googling, and I have a doctors appointment soon at which I'll talk to him about it, but the sooner I know, the better.

Was just reading over the letter I got from the hospital the other night, and it says I have a first degree block. I'm kinda angry actually, because they didn't tell me, they said everything was fine. I had to google what it was, and now I'm freaking out!

I have worked in a cardiac ward for 7 years as a nurse and Generally a first degree heart block is harmless, and is not related to weight or other health issues, it can be a variation of normal. Medications can cause a first degree heart block

I read one of your other threads where you said you had palpitations, sometimes they can be related to anxiety and sometimes due to the heart. You could ask your GP if a referral to a cardiologist is needed but at this point they may say no unlessnyou get a recuurance of the sumptoms. If you keep getting palpitations they can arrange for you to get a holter monitor fitted. This is a heart monitor you wear at home for 24hrs that records your hearts rhythm, this then gets downloaded and reported on. Hospital monitoring is limited because you aren't doing your normal daily activities. They may want to do an echocardiogram to check the structures of the heart. This is a specialised ultrasound of the heart that is non invasive

I hope your GP can help explain the letter for you and reassure you. It would be nice if drs gave usnallmthe information and explained the relevance of the info.

From everything I have read, generally with first degree there is no treatment, and generally you don't have symptoms or know you have it.

Some medications can cause a first degree heart block so they may be ceased or changed.

Try not to worry, and stop googling!!!
