Exit clean - oven and stuff

I'm just getting quotes from removalists, including the exit clean from our current rental. We'll need to have the carpets steam cleaned as we have to provide a receipt.

What do people do about the oven? The cleaning quote is $500 extra for the oven ($200) and the windows. I know I can get the windows cleaned inside and out for a lot cheaper. I'm sure I can get a total exit clean cheaper too. I'm just wondering if I clean the oven this weekend and then don't use it much, if I can get away with it. I loathe cleaning the oven, but how closely do property managers look? I'm certainly not spending $200 on it.

As it is, the move is expensive, simply because we choose to pay the extra and have them do the pack and unpack. I just forget how much it costs.

Do people pay to have the oven cleaned?

i have never paid to have my oven cleaned, and i (or dh before we moved in together) had plenty of places where the property managers definitely did not look at the ovens! i would get a can of the nasty oven cleaner or go bicarb and vinegar and clean it myself and save $190 plus.

I guess it depends on how much elbow grease you're prepared to put in, and the condition of the oven when you moved in. Cleaning an oven properly takes a good couple of hours but I doubt I'd pay an extra $200 for it. I'd maybe get a few more quotes from places that just do ovens rather than the whole exit clean to compare.

I think I'll just have to not be lazy and give it a go myself I'm pretty sure there was an oven cleaning thread not long ago.

The place isn't a pigsty so we could probably do most of it ourselves and just get the carpets cleaned. I don't think many property managers see what I can see, but every now and again there'll be one. I just hate hanging out in the old house once I move into the new place...

    Thanks.

EYA - the banner ad that just came up was for cleaning ovens and BBQs. Clever.

Ummm as the inside glass on our oven fell off one rental, and we just wrapped it in newspaper and put it in the cupboard ... no penalty.

L&B I'd check how much of your bond you lose if you elect not to do an exit clean... We were with Elders when DF got deployed at 10 days notice, so we didnt want to spend those few days cleaning, we told them we wanted them to do it... they only charged us $375 for a 4 bed 2 living home..... and that was cleaning out the gutters, mowing and cleaning windows as well $500 sounds a bit OTT

On another note......... I dont clean my oven.....I line my oven top to bottom in Al-foil....... I only ever cleaned an oven once before someone pointed this out the me...... It was the little Chinese lady who used to come to do my nails.....She didnt have a great grasp on english, but after I told her why my nails were so bad she got up, found our al-foil and showed me how to tuck it in behind the brackets for the trays etc......God send! I'll love that lady forever!
Now whenever I notice the foil getting dirty I just change it....... takes about 10 mins tops!
