    Importing a car seat

Hello I'm interested to see if anyone has imported a car seat that you cannot buy in aus. Have you had any problems? The seat I am particularly interested in is the radian rxt. Any feedback appreciated, tia

Is it legal here???? What are the implications in an accident, would he still be covered by TAC/insurance etc?

Sorry I know that's not answering your question!!

My understanding is that babies need to be in a car seat that can demonstrate that it meets the relevant safety standard. I would check with your local roads authority and insurer. If they give you the OK it should be no more complex than importing anything else. Keep copies of the emails just in case you need them ie if you get pulled over or involved in an accident.

This is from the Vic Roads website:
Can we use a child restraint or booster seat from overseas?
No. Child restraints and booster seats purchased overseas do not comply with the Australian Standard for child restraints: AS/NZS 1754. This standard is one of the most stringent child restraint standards in the world. Unlike the European Standard, the Australian standard requires all restraints to be tested in side and rear impact tests and some with inverted test for roll-over protection.

When buying your child’s restraint, look for the standard’s sticker on the restraint and wording on the package that states it complies with AS/NZS 1754.

Child restraints that meet the standards released in 1991, 1995, 2000, 2004 and 2010 are legal and can be used in motor vehicles in Victoria.

The VicRoads restraint product tables list the approved child restraints and approved booster seats available to purchase.

Dd1 is having the same problem, sore bottom and pins and needles. She has a cushion on her seat which helps a little bit. The laws are about to change regarding seats, I think the iso fix are about to be legal there was an article in the paper today but ran out of time to read it all.

It says it has the NZ 'S' standard, which is NZ 1754 so it is probably legal over there. How tall is he? It goes to 144cm with the harness, then uses the car seat belt.

If I can help, let me know. They are on special here for $460NZ.

I read isofix likely to be legal from early 2013, which is great news as are so easy to fit correctly compared to current method here - and the rational for not allowing always been odd, seeing as cars manufactured in last few years all have the attachment.

Thanks arte. Yes I will definitely let you know if I need help. Have found a seller in nz who will post it to me if I go ahead with it. Not sure exactly how tall he is - can't check right now, we are in car- but I would guess about 120, 125 or so?

I have a friend who imported an ISOfix seat last year, her Ins company were fine with it as they are in international company and Isofix is the standard everywhere else.... not much help if your car does not have Isofix though.

Arte- was it definitely the radian rxt that you've seen for nz460 as I was looking at it for nz510?
