    tick bite

    Hi
if a tick bites your dog but the tick is no longer there, is there a big issue.
i found a mark on my dogs tummy that looks like a reaction to a tick bite(according to dr google) and i just don't know if it is something to worry about.
i have checked him all over and there are no ticks on him. i don't have any experience with ticks as we have never had any.
our new house has a lot of shrubbery in the yard.

    thanks

This was actually on Bondi Vet last week, a woman found a tic on her dog and removed it, but the head stayed in. I don't think they found any more tics, but he still was going downhill.

Personally I wouldn't mess around if I thought it was a tic, they can affect the dog so quickly, it's best to get in early just incase.

    Hope your pooch is ok.

I would keep a very close eye on him, if he starts displaying symptoms of a tick bite, then get him to a vet ASAP. They can hide very well. Hope he's ok.

I would take the dog to the vet - better safe than sorry.

A tick reaction site doesn't necessarily mean that the head has stayed in. Even if it did it wouldn't cause a problem. Monitor your dog well for any signs of illness and by this I mean anything abnormal - not just what you would consider to be tick paralysis signs, as ticks cause systemic illness such as lack of body temperature control. Any signs and you should take your dog to the vet - early treatment is a lot more successful. But I personally wouldn't if you haven't seen signs, particularly as you also didn't see an actual tick. Having said that, give your dog a good check over as it is easy to get multiple ticks.
