Cradle cap or dandruff?? What is the difference?

My DD is 5 and I have only just noticed she has a big patch of dry skin on her scalp. She used to get cradle cap when she was tiny, but I haven't noticed anything since then, until now. Would it be cradle cap or dandruff, or is it all the same thing, just a different name? Can I do the usual treatments for her which I used when she was a baby, I used to use olive oil on it to help lift the skin off? Is there anything else I could do to prevent it, or is the oil enough?

Dandruff could be due to dry or oily skin ... it is a bit different to cradlecap I think as cradlecap is whole chunks of scalp lifting off? If it is dandruff, it's finding out which is her type - I have oily dandruff which means that drying the scalp helps .. with dry dandruff, making the scalp oily helps. Although, if she's scratching, it may be headlice I'd go to the pharmacy and have a chat with the pharmacist, they are pretty good at diagnoses.

Thanks Kaz. I know it's not lice. She's not scratching and it's not at all bothering her. I will try the oil on her scalp to remove the skin and see what happens I guess. It can't hurt, being that it's only olive oil.

How's it going? Did the olive oil work?
