    Lefty or righty?

When did U start noticing a preference and did it end up being their dominant hand (is that the correct word)?

Hubby and I are just sitting here playing with the little guy and notice he is holding his rattle in mainly his left hand. Seems to also swap it from his right hand to his left if we give it to him in his right!

    Just curious!

Preference to hand is not decided until well after the second birthday normally.

Agree with Ausgirl. My DS was random in dominence until well after 2. However around 18months with DD it was obvious she's a lefty.

My 4 year old DD had been left dominant from the beginning. I remember noticing it very early and commenting on it but was aware that it could change. She never did change preferences and is absolutely a left hander.

Her younger sister on the other hand (almost 2) has always shown preference for her right. She may have tried things more with her left in the early days but will always come back to right handedness.

So for both my girls it has been pretty clear from the beginning.

My eldest son was quite ampidextrous. Eventually he went to right hand although still will use his spoon left handed kicks foot with left foot. Second son dominat right hand from the start. 3rd son left handed does nothing right handed. 4th son too early to tell.
