Hi Flossie, welcome to the club no one wants to join. Diabetes is not fun for anyone - not for the person who is diagnosed or for the family who has to cope. My DD was diagnosed at 15 months and my DS at 8 but they were diagnosed on the same day February 2010 was a major changing point in my family however we have an excellent management team and we can call them whenever we need to. My DD is now on a pump and it makes life easier, DS is getting his in June When you get used to it it becomes your new normal.

If you have any questions or just want to cry I'm here for you sweetie. Take care of you as well hun xxx

Time definitely does fly - you just go into a coping mechanism!

How is she going on the pump? My dd has web pumping for nearly 3 years now (August) and diagnosed nearly 4 years ago (October)
I love our pump and wouldn't change it for the world!

I don't BUT was on centerlink last night, did you know there is a payment associated with caring for someone with T1 Diabetes?

You are entitled to the carer allowance payment fortnightly ($114) and also a health care card. You also get a bonus at tax time (not sure of full amount)

Our hospital when diagnosed did all this for us

OMG no I didnt. I have just had a look at the c/link site and printed off the forms. Im heading in tomorrow to see what the situation is and see what else I need to do to qualify.
I dropped the forms at my Docs this morning for her to sign for me.
What do you need to write to get the adjustment payment?

I don't get an adjustment payment. I get the fortnightly carer allowance but didn't qualify for carer payment as they don't class the needs of a diabetic as high enough (even though it's a 24/7 job)

I know we get reviews every so often just to verify we are still eligible, but its not like she miraculously cures herself overnight.

I'm shocked your hospital didn't do it for you, ours did all the paperwork when doing the stuff for the NDSS.

The bonus payment at tax time I just get with my ftb arrears so not sure on its exact amount.

Definitely head into centrelink to get the payment - every bit helps (especially with the cost of pump consumables)
