    grommets

So I looks like DS is going to need grommets. His ear has been oozing on and off sincce January. His L ear is perforrated at the moment, and he is having pain in his left cheek. We see the surgeon on the 30th. (the same one who did his tonsils)

What should I expect? How long is recovery, and are they in much pain?

What do you do about swimming? (He LOVES swimming)

How often do you need to get them reviewed?

I heard they just fall out, how long do they last?

    TIA

In my experience, recovery is very fast with no pain after surgery. Swimming is ok but you might need to get him to wear earplugs, ask your surgeon. I get my son's reviewed when they fall out, which is about 18 months after they are put in (although they can fall out a lot faster).

It's quick surgery usually in and out of hospital within a few hours, no pain.
DD2 first ones lasted 18 months and recently had second lot in.
She missed one week of swimming but wears earplugs and a headband to hold them in.
We go every six months and have been for 2 years now.
They can last anywhere from a few months to 12-18 months or more

Thanks for asking Olive. Had surgeon appt and hearing test. 30% ish loss in both ears. Surgeon wants us to clear the infection and see him again in a few weeks. He has said he will do them if we want.

I really want to see how he is when we get the infection under better control, and decide from there.
