DD1 is having her birthday on wednesday there will be around 12 school friends and 20 family and friends.
We have foodwise:
Spit pig
Salad
Party pies
Potato chips
Cupcakes
Birthday cake
We are on an extremely tight budget since moving today. Do you think this is enough or can you suggest some cheap things to add
What about fairy bread Nik? It was a hit at the twins party - even the adults ate it . I just made it up with 2 loaves of bread - and I used the $1 loaves from Coles so it was a great cheap option
How could i forget fairy bread thanks hun!
PZ we will have garden salad and potato salad what other salad would you suggest?
A fruit platter is a good idea or i wonder if i can make up some fruit kebabs cheaply with a dip of some sort
You could ask a few of your friends to bring a plate if you think they would want to help out. Nibblies, salads, sweets or something that is easy to bring along.
As Rowellen said could you ask someone to bring a salad (coleslaw, pasta salad).
At the girls b'days we've almost always had atleast 1-2 people bring a plate of food - 1yr SIL made a tray of sandwiches, a friend bought a fruit platter.
potato bake is cheap
big plate of chopped watermelon is cheaper than a full fruit platter
I make cupcakes with homebrand packet vanilla cake mix then turn them into butterfly cakes with whipped cream and jam
little cups with jelly are also cheap
I generally find kids dont eat much at parties anyway, its the adults that are hungry
So the menu stands like this:
Spit pig
Party pies & sausage rolls
Garden salad
Sweet potato salad by mak
Pumpkin and feta salad by ZB
Fairy bread
Jelly with fruit
Fruit kebabs with honey and yogurt dip
Cake
I think that should be enough after all they are there for claire not food ...
For the pumpkin salad:
Cut pumpkin into small cubes, roast in the oven with a tiny bit of salt (can do garlic too) towards the end throw in some pine nuts on a separate tray.
Allow to cool.
In a salad bowl put spinach, cooled pumpkin & pine nuts, thinly sliced red onion and small cubes of feta.
Toss with a little olive oil & salt.
Sent from my iPhone, more than likely while I should be doing something else!
Ok bought all the ingredients i need for the whole lot (except the pog as thats homegrown) and it shocked me how cheap it was $62.34 thats all fruit, all veg, pies, sausage rolls, cake ingredients and decorations, napkins, paper plates, cups and cordial awesome almost $100 under the put aside budget
