DD's daycare have asked me to get a dr's certificate stating the rash on her bottom isn't contagious.. It's been there for a little while and is slowly getting better, just not quite completely there (not helped I think by the fact she is back in nappies because she's refusing to wear underpants/do wees on the toilet after i thought we had toilet training mastered)
Anyway, their reasoning is she's had it for so long (3 weeks maybe) and they want to know that it's not contagious. The doctor was there this afternoon asking me why it mattered it or not, of they are using correct hygiene practices and not sharing clothing between kids then it shouldn't be a problem (she does go to day care in underpants). I told him I don't know why, I just needed something to say she can go otherwise she won't be allowed to attend. All he's written is "I have seen *insert name* today and I believe she can attend her day care"
I hope that will be acceptable for them, I think they wanted to know what it was, he didnt really tell me what it was, but he prescribed an anti-fungal cream, and I don't really want to go into all the details with them. They've made me feel awful enough about it (probably not intentionally).. How much info is required on a doctor's certificate? I would feel even worse if I was told to take her back home because of it. She's already been going with it, it's not worrying her at all, and obviously her bottom shouldn't be in close contact with anyone else's!
Guess I'll find out tomorrow.. (and I was hesitant about posting this..so please I don't want to hear any opinions about how maybe I should have taken her to the dr earlier..maybe I should have but it was slowly getting better with what I was using and she hasn't been acting sick at all or like it was worrying her..just my disclaimer!)
They are probably after a clearance cert that doctors won't issue if they see any signs of a virus.
They should accept what he has written. I have never had the 'illness' on a clearance cert, just that the dr has examined them and they are ok to attend daycare.
DD1 had a fungal infection that lasted on and off for months - very frustrating! I guess it was contagious in that both my girls were sharing cloth nappies at the time and he suggested putting one into disposables while she still had the rash so that DD2 didn't end up with the same rash. Can't see how that should possibly be an issue at a day care centre though.
I'm not sure if there are different restrictions for daycare, but my understanding of medical certificates and privacy is that the nature of the illness or whatever is none of anybody's business, and that the organisation must accept a doctor saying you are fit (or unfit as the case may be) for work or school.
I hope your little one's poor bottom gets better soon.
