Overcharged for Childcare - Do I Go To Centrelink or Childcare Provider?
My brain is currently fried and I know I can call Centrelink but I also know you girls (especially BG) will know the answer to this.
I've been overcharged for my childcare since the start of this year. Totally my fault. Well, partly. Forgot to give DD2's Centrelink number to the childcare place and the local GP stuffed up DD1's immunisation record so it looked like she wasn't fully immunised (she was) and hence having been getting CCB or CCR for her.
So I've been paying full fees of $600 per fortnight (2 days childcare, 2 days a week for both girls)
I recently thought I'd got everything in order. Reapplied for CCB and CCR. Going forward - no problem, all sorted.
But I have a notification from Centrelink saying what I've paid in childcare fees for this last quarter. It's wrong. So not sure how I go about getting it backdated and getting stuff reimbursed.
I guess I'm just not sure whether in the first instance I go to the childcare provider or Centrelink.
As long as everything is in order with clink.i would make sure your centre updates their records for future. And you should get it back at tax time. We pay full fees ( when its were In care) and would get ask extra fees, rebates etc
back at tax
Centres can backdate (but I aren't required to if they choose not to), but only 28 days from when your CCB was cancelled. So if it's taken longer than that to fix up, you will have to wear that cost till tax time unfortunately.
Ausgirl is right - for CCB and CCR, the childcare can backdate up to 28 days from the date of grant of CCB. so if it was all granted right back and it was only missing information for DD2, IN THEORY, they can go and have the CCB paid to them right back - however, most won't. they will back date 28 days from when you provide the information (in terms of their billing) and then submit usage (but not claim ccb/ccr) going back to the date of grant and the ccb/ccr for that period will be paid at tax time. if your child started in care before you had ccb granted, you will need to do a lump sum claim at tax time from the date your started child care til the date ccb was granted for that child
the same will likely happen with DD1 and her immunisation cancellation/reinstatement. if it's been more than a month, the child care may not go right back to when it was reinstated. mostly because, for them, it's messy to try and claim back there and fix up/credit your bill going forward. as long as they have put in the usage statements each week (you can check this online) it will be sorted and paid at tax time.
Go have a talk to the child care centre they can backdate you. But there is a certain time frame that they can back date you from. So you will not be backdated for all of the money...
Thanks so much everyone - particularly BG. That makes total sense. Think I will just wait and do it at tax time rather than giving extra work to my cc centre for something that wasn't their fault. Only two months to go afterall.
