    Green Tea

    Its not exactly food but..

Just wondering if anyone knows the best way to make green tea?
I have some Dilmah green tea leaves and every time I make it, it tastes really metallic?

Anyone else had this issue? or know how to make it properly? Perhaps I'm leaving the leaves in too long?

    TIA

I would guess you are brewing it too long, I tend to do it too and I get tummy cramps after I drink too much strong green tea. It seems to need a lot less brewing time than other teas?

Thanks for the reply Jessiebean, I will give it a shot with brewing for a shorter time and see how it goes

Green tea needs about 1-3 minutes to steep properly. Any longer and the flavour will be off.
I would also check the temp of the water you are using. for green tea, you want 60-75 degree water, anything hotter than that and you will get the metalic and bitter from the tannins in the leaf.

    Hope that helps

Yep, don't use fresh boiled water. Wait a little for it to cool a bit and then don't steep it for longer than 3 minutes.

Or you can put about a third or so of cold water into the teapot/cup (wherever you're brewing before adding the leaves

Could be pesticides too maybe? I react to peppermint tea unless it's organic and pesticide free, makes me feel nauseous. Not sure it would affect flavour though so I might be on the wrong track!
