My second twin got the measles rash after having 12mth Immunisations :(
My poor little man is not very happy and is covered in red spots .
The twins had their 12mth immunisations 11 days ago and yesterday DS2 woke up with a rash all over his face and torso and back. Wondering if he was having a reaction to the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination I rang Nurse on Call.
We went through the symptoms and it turns out that since Wednesday he started getting the reaction (vomitting, lack of appetite, poor sleeping - I put this down to both boys having colds and teething as well).
But she told me that about 5% of babies vaccinated willl get a reaction and will get the measles rash which should go after 3 days and that the reaction generally occurs within 7-10 days after immunisation. So today is now day 2 and the rash is now worse and has spread to his arms and legs as well. Fortunately he isn't contagious but if the rash hasn't gone by Tuesday then I need to take him to the Dr in case he has had a worse reaction than 'normal'.
I was unaware that this can happen as DD never had any type of reaction and fingers crossed DS1 seems fine as well but how can a 12mth old express if he is itchy and sore. I hope the rash has started to ease for him by tomorrow.... I also don't want to take him out now until the rash has cleared as he looks so bad and people will jump to conclusions that he has some type of contagious disease
Oh crap :-( That is terrible and it should have been explained to you as a possible side effect. Can you get some sort of cream from the health shop or chemist that may help ease the rash and help settle the itchy and soreness? Don't worry about people jumping to conclusions, if you have been advised he is safe to take out and you need to, then go out. You may need to take him into the chemist/health shop so they can take a look at how bad the rash is.
